Career Info and Opportunities~Methacton Students & Families

The Path to a Great Career Continues Here!

As we move from Summer into Fall, the opportunities abound for Methacton High School students. Help us encourage our students to get involved. Some of the things going on are college rep visits, programs that provide business experiences, research programs, professional mentorships, part-time emplyoment and volunteer opportunities. Lots of ways to move along or toward a career path.

You may be wondering how students hear about these and other programs throughout the year. Programs and information can be heard on the morning announcements, emailed to students, posted on Google classrooms and/or posted in and aroud the Counseling and Career Centers. The Career Center Twitter and Instagram accounts (see below for links) are also good places to check to check out.

The programs highlighted in this newsletter are all free and help students with career readiness and decision making. What a bargain! See below for some of the offerings. Applying early is key as many of these oportunities go fast!

Teen Research Internship Program

Fox Chase Cancer Center in partnership with William Tennent High School, is offering the Teen Research Internship Program (TRIP) Initiative during the Winter/Spring of 2019. TRIP is an intensive 12-week science exploratory program for select high school students. The free program offers a hands-on training experience in a science lab to increase both student excitement about science and to help prepare them for future careers in science and medicine. Do you want to learn what it takes to be an entrepreneur? Interested in owning your own business? Junior Achievement gives you the chance to put your ideas into action by starting and running your own company under the mentorship of business professionals. Apply now to get your preferred site.

Did you know?

Methacton had 26 students involved in JA last year!
Many of our students won awards at the regional competition in April 2018.

ACE Mentoring Program

Interested in a career in architecture, engineering, or construction? The ACE Mentor Program of Eastern PA is now acepting applications.The purpose of the program is to enlighten high school students about architecture, construction and engineering through a hands-on mentoring process. Mentors guide the students as they work on a mock design project introducing them to various construction-related careers, industry vocabulary and the various roles each company plays in the construction industry.

Introducing the Methacton Mentorship Program

After researching the importance of work-based experiences for career readiness, and learning about high school career programs around the state, it became clear that these opportunities be encouraged for our high school students. The Career Center is pleased to announce a pilot mentorship program for a cohort of 10th and 11th grade students.

What is the Methacton Mentorship Program?

The program is a 20 hour, nonpaid work experience where students are placed with a business mentor in a chosen career field. It is an opportunity for students to gain practical workplace skills and knowledge in an environment that complements their academic coursework and career goals. College representatives are coming to the high school daily. Students can see the list of scheduled college visits and sign up for the visits of their choosing in Naviance. Don't miss out!

Job Openings for High School Students

Jobs are posted on the website as they become available. Also check out the Job Board outside the Main Office at the high school for postings.

Are You an Entrepreneur?

Do you run your own business or know someone who does? We are looking for entrepreneurs to share thei rstory and expertise with our ninth grade students on Wed. Oct 10 in the morning. We would love to have you join us for our Futures Expo. Let us know if you can help!

Mechatronics at North Montco Technical Career Center

The program focuses on mechatronics engineering technology, which is a multidisciplinary field where workers design, troubleshoot, maintain and repair sophisticated automated equipment through a systems approach.
