John Champe Knightly News
August 23-September 2, 2023
Welcome to the 2023-24 school year!
The JCHS Kingdom is ready to welcome our knights!
Please read on for information to kick off the 2023-2024 school year.
Admin Corner
In order to start off successfully, PLEASE:
* help your student(s) be up and ready for school on time each day. They cannot expect to be in class on time if they leave home five minutes before the school day begins;
* remind your student(s) if they walk to school to cross in marked crosswalks ONLY; this is at the Northstar/Conejo intersection;
* drive at posted speeds and be alert for students;
* keep in mind that buses are likely to be delayed, particularly in the afternoons, for the first week or so;
* check out the LCPS StopFinder app for bus information;
* ensure your student(s) knows both AM and PM bus numbers because they may be different;
* inform your student that they will start each of the first four days in their assigned advisory class;
* encourage your student to get involved! There are countless opportunities including immediate spirit days and games this week. See below for our inaugural Battle of Braddock week!
Our PE department wanted to make sure you were aware of the JCHS dress out expectations for the 2023-2024 school year. A lot of our students will be taking PE at Champe for the first time so we wanted to give them this information before the school year begins as well as let our returning PE students know what changes were ahead of them and what will be the same.
To ensure safety during physical education (PE), students must be dressed appropriately for moderate to vigorous activity and be prepared to use equipment. All students are expected to dress out. Students may change clothes via the locker room or other designated area(s).
Reasonable clothing choices are required while maintaining an acceptable dress standard per LCPS dress code and for movement. Appropriate and safe dress for PE includes:
- Closed-toed tennis shoes and socks that allow for moderate-to-vigorous movement that limits safety concerns (no sandals, flip flops, Crocs, slippers, etc.).
- A pair of pants or shorts and a shirt that allow for moderate-to-vigorous movement that limits safety concerns.
- For colder weather - warm, long-sleeved sweatshirts and/or pants are appropriate
- Jewelry and other items that can cause injury or accidents should not be worn
This information can be found on the LCPS website. Thank you for your time. If you have any questions or concerns, please email your child’s PE teacher.

Complete Online Student Verification Process
Earlier this week, families were invited to log in to ParentVue to complete online verification as part of the LCPS First Day of School process. We have learned that some users had difficulty logging into the system, and we apologize for that frustration. Issues with the vendor have since been addressed and parents/guardians are encouraged to log in – if they have not already done so – to review and update important information about their students. The online verification process must be completed no later than Friday, Sept. 22. Once completed, you will be able to view student schedules and bus information in ParentVUE. If you do not have a ParentVUE account, please contact your student’s school to request an activation letter. Visit the First Day webpage for resources and FAQs to help you with the Online Verification process and get ready for the start of the new school year.
Access LINQ Connect to Pay for Student Meals
LCPS’ meal payment system is called LINQ Connect (formally TITAN Family Portal). To register for a LINQ Connect account, go to LINQ Connect and click on the “Register” button in the top right corner.
At the end of last year, TITAN Family Portal, LCPS' previous meal payment system, changed to LINQ Connect. You can use the same credentials to login to LINQ Connect that you used with TITAN Family Portal. You do not need to create an account, change a password, etc.
If you used the TITAN Family Portal mobile app, you will need to download the LINQ Connect app. TITAN Family Portal mobile app will not work; however, all of your previous credentials will work in the LINQ Connect app. You can use the same credentials to log in to LINQ Connect that you used with TITAN Family Portal.

New, Optional Service Provides Report of Student Website Access on LCPS Devices
ew this school year, LCPS is introducing an optional and free service for families called Lightspeed Parent Portal. Families who elect to use this service will receive weekly reports by email that list websites their student(s) are accessing when using their LCPS-issued Chromebook or laptop. For instructions, additional information and details on how to sign up, see the Lightspeed Parent Portal website.
SchooLinks Helps Students Plan Their Futures
LCPS has partnered with SchooLinks to prepare students for what comes after graduation. SchooLinks helps students discover their interests and strengths, explore colleges and careers, and create individualized plans that best reflect their post-secondary goals. SchooLinks also includes a College Application Manager, an incredible tool for students who are applying to colleges. This feature is designed to streamline the college application process and keep your student organized every step of the way. Currently, SchooLinks is accessible to middle and high school students and their parents/guardians. Middle and high school students will continue to receive guidance on utilizing the platform. In October, elementary students and their parents will have access to the platform. Students access SchooLinks via LCPSGo, and parents/guardians access the platform through ParentVue. SchooLinks replaces Naviance, which closed on June 30, 2023. Learn more about SchooLinks.
