Winter Weather Reminder
Winter weather has arrived! Please remember to send your children to school with appropriate winter clothes such as a warm coat, hat, and mittens/gloves. Once the snow flies, snow pants and boots will be required for students to play in the snow during recess. Without them they will only be allowed to play on the blacktop areas. It is also a good idea to label all outdoor clothing with your child’s name so there no confusion among the many different cold weather items.
For up to date information about school closings or delays due to the snowy weather you can use any of the following resources:
· DMPS-TV on Mediacom cable channels 12.1
· Local radio and television stations
Nurse News
Please be mindful of the school’s illness policy during these winter months. Students with the following symptoms should remain home or may be sent home from school:
1.) An oral temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Note: The child’s temperature must remain below 100 degrees for 24 hours without benefit of use of fever reducing medications before they can return to school.
2.) Vomiting- should be free of symptom for 24 hours before returning to school.
3.) Diarrhea- should be free of symptom for 24 hours before returning to school.4.) Persistent nasal congestion, reddened eyes, sore throat, cough or headaches that disrupt the student’s learning or pose a risk of disease transmission to others.
5.) Unexplained skin eruptions or rashes. When in doubt, consult your child’s doctor.
6.) Any other health condition that in the school nurses judgment is of concern for the others health and wellbeing and that of the child.
7.) Communicable illnesses in which you have been advised to remain out of school until cleared to return by the county health department or your child’s doctor.
To minimize the spread of illness among students, report communicable diseases such as influenza, measles, whooping cough, hepatitis A, tuberculosis, chickenpox etc. to the school nurse immediately.
