Ways to Make 2023-2024 a Great Year
Tips to be Successful in English Class
1. Be in class and on time.
2. When writing, having to compose multiple drafts and revise is not failure-- it's a necessary part of the process.
3. Learn to be okay with some struggle-- not every student will master every concept immediately. Keep working towards your goals!
4. Know your resources! Some important websites include:
-For essay structure and MLA format visit The Purdue OWL (Online Writing Lab) at owl.purdue.edu
-For citing sources visit MyBib at mybib.com
-For access to full length text and books, visit Project Gutenberg at gutenberg.org
-For finding reliable/ credible sources, visit Google Scholar at scholar.google.com
-For grammar and punctuation help, visit No Red Ink at noredink.com
5. Ask for help! Teachers are happy to help when you communicate in a clear and timely manner.
Tips to Be Successful in Math Class
1. Do your homework in a timely manner. Homework is your opportunity to practice what you are learning in class.
2. Ask questions if you do not understand. Your teachers are happy to answer any questions you may have, but they cannot answer what you do not ask. If you do not want to ask during class, teachers are also available to answer questions via email or during seventh period.
3. Work plenty of practice problems before your test. Do not give up if you struggle with a specific type of question. Keep practicing until you master it.
4. Know your resources.
www.numworks.com is a free online calculator that you can use at home.
www.desmos.com is another great free calculator.
Youtube and Khan academy both provide videos if you are struggling to master a concept.
5. Show your work! Teachers cannot grade what they cannot see.
School Store
Hello! I would like to invite you all to come shop!
The School Store Cart is located in Mrs. Harris's Room (228) in the Jr. High A building.
We have most everything you need for school, and some fun items, too.
Around holidays, there will be holiday items, as well!
If there is anything you would like to see in the school store, feel free to send me an email or drop by :)
We will be open for 7th and 8th grade between classes.
We will be open for 9th-12th grade 7th period, with a note from your teacher.
Water Safety
Nearly 900 children ages 0-19 die from unintentional drowning each year in the United States.
For children ages 5-19, unintentional drowning is the third leading cause of death each year in the United States.
For more information on unintentional drownings, visit https://www.childrenssafetynetwork.org/infographics/disparities-us-childhood-adolescent-drowning-deaths.
Several local options exist to get swimming lesson to help prevent unintentional drowning. For more information, contact the Jonesboro YMCA or Paragould Community Center.
Community Fair/Pep Rally
The first community fair/pep rally was a success. Thank you to everyone that took time out of their evening to attend and/or set up a booth. We look forward to a great year at Brookland High School! If you would like to volunteer or partner with the school for future events, please email aduncan@bpsbearcats.com.
Immunization Requirements
Flu Shot Clinic will be October 4th. Students can pick up forms in the office.
The second dose of MCV4 is required at 16 years of age. Students have the entire year to receive the full dose. MCV4 is a 2 dose series with students receiving the first one at 11 years and second at 16 years old. This is an immunization required for college admission. If a student/family wants to be exempt from the immunization for any reason, they will need to fill out an exemption application online with the Arkansas Department of Health. The exemption form is available on their website to download or fill out online.
Bearcat Brag
Congratulations to Mrs. Katie Dillon for being selected as BPS District Educator of the Year! Thank you for all of the time, energy, and effort you give our students and school and for always going above and beyond.
