Inclement Weather Guidelines
As winter weather approaches, we want to share the district's process and factors when determining a weather-related school closing. The decision to close school due to inclement weather is not easy. We know students should be in class, but we can’t control the weather. Our top priority is the safety of our students and staff. Please read this letter for the district's procedures for weather-related school closings.
Herman Moore, Former Detroit Lions Player, Inspires Adams Middle School Students
Hegira Health, Inc. and The Sports Marketing Agency orchestrated a compelling mental wellness event at Adams Middle School.
The event featured Detroit Lions legend and NFL-All Pro Herman Moore, Hegira CEO Carol Zuniga and Executive Director of College and Career Readiness and SEL Daryl Beebe, who emphasized the pivotal role of self-care and mental wellness in achieving success in academics, sports, and various activities, while fostering positive relationships with family and friends.
Following an impactful assembly for the eighth grade students, the team visited classrooms, generously distributing over 600 hats and gloves.
Earn College Credits in High School
Did you know that Wayne-Westland Community Schools District has an Early College Program? Wayne-Westland Early College is a rigorous program that offers high school students an opportunity to earn college credit, industry credentials, and up to an associate degree while still in high school.
While there are many options for district high school students to earn college credit, this is the only path that provides students with an associate degree.
Current 8th, 9th, and 10th-grade district students and Career Tech EMT, Firefighting, and Future Educator students are eligible to apply. Wayne-Westland Early College is hosting information sessions to support families in exploring this opportunity on the following dates:
- January 17, 2024 - 6 p.m., William D. Ford Career-Technical Center
- January 31, 2024 - 6 p.m., via Zoom (Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89190989589 )
Honoring School Board Leaders
Wayne-Westland Community Schools is joining 537 local and 56 intermediate school districts across Michigan to celebrate January as School Board Recognition Month.
Public school board members devote themselves to their district needs, spending several personal hours attending meetings and school functions and preparing for the decisions they make.
This month, we encourage community members, parents and students to thank the district's school board for their hard work and public service.
