The Principal's Nest
September Parent Edition
Excellent Beginnings
Thank you, parents, for a wonderful start to our school year. This week you will receive progress reports this week. Most teachers have concluded their beginning of year tests and assessments. Now, we can begin the work of teaching students right where they are.
Remember, Johnston County uses Standards Based Grading for Elementary Schools. This means that we are assessing students knowledge on the standards set by the state and Johnston County School.

Growth
We met growth expectations last year! The state gives a standard that they expect students to grow during the school year. Our students met that expectation! We have not done that since 2015! We celebrate this because it's not about the score of the students on the EOG, but about the progress made throughout the year. We are so proud of our students and the teachers who work tirelessly to motivate and inspire!

Parent Reminders
Here are a couple of safety and procedural things that we need to remind parents about:
- All students should be walking themselves to class (Except Pre-K) Please use the front lobby to say your goodbyes.
- When coming to eat lunch with students, bags with company logos are not permitted in the cafeteria (Applebee's, McDonald's, Chic-fil-A etc) Please use an unmarked container or bag
- During carpool, please make sure your student exits from the passenger side. Some students are walking in front of cars and they can not be seen by drivers. Also, please do not send glass bottles with juice or drink to school.
- If you are in need of a carpool pass, please come inside the main office and we will provide you with one.
- As the seasons are changing, please have your children pack a sweater in case the building temperatures get too chilly for some.
- Parents may not wait in the office or outside to avoid carpool. Please join the carpool line or bus transportation if you'd prefer not to wait.
Students need to be here by 12:15 to be counted present and Students will not be released after 3:20. If you come after the 3:20 mark, you will need to go through carpool.
