Bridge Street School Vision and Mission Statements
Bridge Street School’s faculty and staff, caregivers, and community are committed to providing educational excellence and equity to its students by challenging the injustices that create barriers to high academic achievement, to access and opportunities to learn, to high-quality teaching and learning, and to a climate of belonging. This commitment to educational equity, where all children are successful regardless of their personal, social, or cultural contexts, is at the core of our practices, structures, and policies.
A Message from Principal Choquette
We are going to try to keep our tents up to Thanksgiving depending on the weather. This means we will have lunches (grades 3-5) outdoors for as long as possible. The first lunch begins at 10:45 when it is still quite cool. Students should dress in layers so they are comfortable at lunch and recess and for the morning recess.
Many of you are getting ready to celebrate Halloween next week. Although we do allow those who celebrate to wear costumes on Friday (with the exception of face masks, face paint/blood, and props), we will also have students who don't celebrate or don't have the means to get costumes. Some teachers may decide to do something different such as no costumes and a pajama day if they choose. I ask that if your child's teacher decides to do something other than costumes, that you respect that.
On Friday we had many students tardy for school. I know the earlier start to school can be challenging for families, however, students should be arriving to school by 7:55 a.m. They are marked tardy if they arrive after 8:00 a.m. If a bus or van arrives late to school, students are not marked tardy. Coming late to school can be disruptive to the learning environment and takes away time on learning from students. Please do your best to arrive on time for school.
Safe Passage is recruiting participants for Parenting Journey which is a twelve week, experiential support group for survivors of domestic violence ages 18+ who are parents. Parenting Journey has been shown to reduce parental stress, increase insight into one's behavior, and increase social support. By reflecting on one's own childhood, one will be able to choose what kind of parent one wants to be and create one's own style of parenting--a style of parenting that reflects one's own personal vision and goals. See Attached flyer for more information.
Finally, I am asking all caregivers to sit down with their children and address the dangers of social media, the internet, and watching tv shows that are not made for elementary aged children. Some of our students are playing very disturbing games at recess that they are modeling after what they are watching on tv or social media. I am encouraging all families to follow the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics to create a family media plan using a tool such as this AAP Media Plan Tool.
If you have any questions about the games at recess, please feel free to contact me.
I hope you have a great rest of the day.
