Principal's Corner
Greetings Harvey Dunn Families,
It is hard to believe the 2022-2023 school year is coming to an end this month. Kindergarten through 5th Grade students will finish taking the NWEA MAP Assessments, in addition to participating in Fab Friday and Field Day events. This time of the year becomes busy in and out of school. As we reflect on the school year, we celebrate the academic and social growth students have made. Thank you families for your continued support in your child(ren)'s education!
We wish our 5th graders the best as they start their new adventure in middle school next year!
Watch for information at the end of the school year regarding our Summer Dreambox Challenge!
Kindest regards,
Mrs. Chamberlain, Principal

Hello, Harvey Dunn families!
As we come into the homestretch of the school year and see the summer months on the horizon, we are FINALLY experiencing some real spring weather here in South Dakota! After a long winter, adults and kids alike are feeling like our gas tanks are running low. But, with the extra sunshine and warmer weather, it's the perfect time to give our mental health a boost with some time outside.
There are so many benefits to time spent outdoors, for both our minds and our bodies! Being outside for even just short periods of time a few times a week can reduce stress hormones in the body, increase vitamin D, and improve quality of sleep. These physical factors are all correlated to better mental health as well, including lower rates of anxiety and depression, and greater ability to experience positive emotions.
This month, I invite you to think about how you can incorporate more time outside into your children's or your family's routine, both now and into the summer months. Are there any activities you already enjoy outside as a family? Anything you've always wanted to try together?
What will you add to your outdoor wish list this season?

Off the Fridge - Washington Pavilion Art Exhibit
We are excited to announce our upcoming art show at the Washington Pavilion as part of their monthly “Off the Fridge” art exhibit! Harvey Dunn will have 60 of our talented student artists in grades 1-5 proudly displaying their masterpieces during the entire month of May. Students who were selected to exhibit have been notified and given a pink note to take home. Everyone is invited to attend the opening reception which will be held on the morning of Saturday, May 6 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Artist introductions will take place at 10:15 and refreshments will be provided. Please join us as we celebrate our creative accomplishments!

Parking Lot Reminders - Thank you for reviewing and keeping students safe!
Students' safe arrival to and departure from school is a top priority. Please take time to review the reminders below. We are all here for the same reason, the children. When we all follow the guidelines during drop off, you help your child start their day off in a positive and safe manner, as well as the other families around you. Thank you for doing your part to make this process and procedure work.
- Park vehicles in the parking lot and walk students to and from the school using the crosswalks. If you are choosing to drop off students, use the circle drive or north drive.
- Only vehicles with handicap parking permits can park in the handicap spots.
- When pulling up in the circle drive or north drive before or after school remain in your vehicle and move forward as the line moves. This helps keep traffic moving.
- Students exit on the passenger side of the vehicle. In the circle drive, once you are in the student drop-off zone, students exit the vehicle. When more students are exiting the vehicles, we are able to move traffic through more efficiently.
- The north drive might be a faster alternative for morning drop-off when the circle drive is busy. Remain in your vehicle and move forward as the line moves. This helps keep traffic moving.
