Curriculum Night Tonight- 6pm
Curriculum Night - Tuesday, September 19th
Medway Middle School is excited to invite all of our families to our Curriculum Night which is scheduled for Tuesday, September 19th starting at 6:00 pm. This adult-only program is an opportunity for families to meet their child’s teachers and learn about their child’s curricular program. On Tuesday, your child will bring home a schedule that will be specific to their grade level/team. We encourage families to take a photo of this schedule so that you can have it with you on Open House Night. We wanted to provide you an overview of the evening and share some other important information.
Parking
We expect that parking will be challenging this evening and encourage families to travel in one vehicle and to carpool with other families, if possible. When parking, we also ask that you refrain from blocking entrances/exits and that you are mindful of blocking other drivers in. We appreciate your cooperation.
Allied Arts Teachers
Medway Middle School is proud to offer a range of curricular activities, in a variety of areas for our students. Allied arts teachers are eager to meet you and share information about their curricula with you. We encourage you to visit the cafeteria, where all allied arts teachers will be stationed, at the designated time to learn more about our course offerings.
MCAS Accountability
Today, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) released MCAS Accountability results. These results help our school determine how we performed in relation to targets set for us by DESE. Medway Middle School will continue to examine this information, along with grade, content area, class, and individual student results to plan for further support and interventions for our students.
Our faculty will be engaging in structured meetings to review both MCAS data as well as the beginning-of-year diagnostic data. These meetings, which will occur at the team and department level, will inform our instructional practices as well as support teachers in setting both student learning and professional practice goals.
You will receive a copy of your child’s MCAS results within the next few weeks. These results represent achievement during the most recent MCAS assessment. In addition to the MCAS Results providing information about your child’s proficiency in achieving standards, they also provide information about how well our school helps students meet the state standards. These results are then used to assist us in making improvements to our curricular and instructional programs. When these results become available, we encourage you to review the MCAS report carefully and to reach out to your child’s teacher or the Middle School office if you have any questions.
Safety Concern - One Chip Challenge
We’d like to share a concerning trend known as the "One Chip Challenge." This challenge has gained popularity among young people and poses serious health risks, which you should know. The "One Chip Challenge" involves consuming an extremely spicy and potent chili pepper chip. Recently, the challenge sickened ten middle school students in Holliston and, sadly, was a precursor to the death of a student in Worcester. For more details about the challenge and it’s health effects, please find a letter from the Director of Wellness linked here.
Clubs and Activities Site
We are pleased to launch the Medway Middle School Clubs and Activities Site. Families are encouraged to view this site to learn more about our Clubs and Activities, find links to Club and Activity pages, or to learn more about our advisors and club meeting times. Please feel free to reach out to any of our advisors if you have questions about any of our clubs and activities.
