Jonathan Alder Junior High
January 12, 2024
Message from the Principal
JAJHS Families,
I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday season. I’m so proud of the way our students and teachers kicked off 2024 and got right back into routines and positive habits. As we concluded the 1st Semester and moved into the 2nd Semester, many students transitioned to new elective classes while continuing the momentum of their core classes.
We’re looking forward to the second half of the year and all that it will hold for the JAJHS community!
As a reminder, 2nd Quarter printed report cards were sent home with students today, Friday, January 12, 2024.
Please be sure to read the newsletter below for important reminders and activities around our school.
Sincerely,
Mr. Malany
Principal

Message from the School Nurse
Families,
Welcome to 2024!
As we continue with an amazing school year, please take a moment to review the following school health information:
â—Ź If your student is taking any medication at school, please make sure you have completed and turned in the correct documentation.
â—Ź All medication must be brought to school by a parent/guardian. Students should not carry medication on them.
● Please drop off clinic medications to me at the JAJHS on Wednesday mornings between 7:15AM-9:30AM when I am in my office. You can email me at rutherti@japioneers.org to schedule other times if this doesn’t work for your family.
● All medical information and documents can be found on the school website under the “Health Services” tab.
â—Ź We are in the peak of cold and flu season. Please continue to encourage your students to wash hands, eat well, get plenty of rest, and cover cough/sneezes.
Thank you for helping us keep your students healthy and safe! Please feel free to reach out at any time with questions/concerns!

Advance registration is recommended at https://www.ohiohistory.org/events/martin-luther-king-jr-day/.
JAJHS Winter Wonderland Dance
Our FIRST dance of the year is scheduled for Friday, January 19th from 7-9 PM. Student council and PTO have been working hard to plan this "Winter Wonderland" event. The cost of admission is $5 per person (Jonathan Alder JH students only, please). Drinks, snacks, and a slice of pizza will be provided with the admission cost, but additional concession type snacks will also be available for a small charge. If you are able to donate your time or resources, here is a link for your review! We hope to see you there!
Madison County Spelling Bee Results

Think Big Space Visit
The 7th grade student council members will be going to the Think Big Space on Friday, January 26th to take part in making items to support local home-bound residents. Participating students will ride the bus to the high school during lunch and intervention. Students will need to pack a lunch this day or request a grab and go cold lunch at least two days prior to the event. Let me Mrs. Garner know if you have any questions.
Washington DC Scholarships - Sponsored Needed
We have a number of students who have expressed a need for financial assistance with the 8th grade Washington, DC trip. If you are aware of an individual, family, business, or community organization who would be interested in providing one or more partial scholarships ($300) to support our students, please contact Mr. Malany (ryan.malany@japioneers.org). Thank you for your consideration.
Basketball Concession Stand Help Needed!
We need your help! In order to open concession stands during the upcoming basketball season, we need parents’ help with volunteering to operate concessions. This is a great way to get to know other families while supporting our PTO, students, and teachers.
Concession stand workers are given free admission to the basketball games that evening. Directions will be provided by the PTO.

Medications at School
Sometimes parents ask that school personnel administer medication to their child during the school day. When this is necessary, we require written permission and instructions from the parent and in some instances from the doctor. The required form must be completed and turned in to the junior high office with the medication to be administered.
