January Champions of the Charter
January’s Champions of the Charter were recently chosen by the staff at Central School. This month, these students went above and beyond to practice and help others to feel POSITIVE, SAFE and CALM here at Central School. The champions will be recognized at the board meeting on February 20. We are very proud of the great example they set for their fellow students.

What's Happening in Mrs. Loy's Class?
The last week before winter break our class had fun participating in the Spirit Week activities such as Pajama Day and Magical Hat day. We also enjoyed making the overnight egg casserole to share with Mrs. Hodgson’s and Mrs. Jordan’s class for our annual breakfast feast. Upon our return from break we begin Chapter 3 in our Earth Science book. The students are excited to learn about “How Rocks and Minerals are Identified.” We began the chapter doing the Direct Inquiry lesson: “Investigate Soil.” In this lesson the Students were able to observe that rocks and soil are made of several substances or minerals. The students were able to make observations and comparisons of minerals using their eyes, a handheld lens and a microscope. They collected and recorded data and asked questions based on their observations. Through these observations the students were also able to identify some of the minerals properties such as luster, color and hardness.
News from Mrs. Jordon's Class
In our math class, we are currently working on order of operations. We just finished learning about exponents and how they are essential for this process. We have been working with using PEMDAS to help us remember the correct order of operations. Our fun wrap up and review activity before our test was an Around the World using the order of operations. Students were given a packet called their "passport" and they had to go around the room and find different places to visit. Once they found the place they wanted to visit, they had to solve the destination's problem. If they answered correctly, they got their passport stamped and approved by a teacher. By the end of the period, our students were world travelers! They had a blast and were ready for their tests!
