CCA Camp Manitou-lin Trip
Career Connections Academy attended YMCA Camp Manitou-lin on October 24th, 2023. The fall colors had peaked, the thermometer surged, and our group was blessed with a perfect day on the shores of Barlow Lake. The students challenged their fear of heights by scaling the high ropes course suspended 30 feet overhead. The course provided students a choice of seven different obstacles. All of the activities involved balance, strength, coordination, and most importantly bravery. To ensure safety, students were always attached via harnesses to steel cable. The camp staff made sure the equipment operated properly, and all students were educated in the proper use of climbing gear. Students on the ground offered words of encouragement and assisted belaying their classmates back to earth. It was a true team effort.
After lunch, the CCA group participated in several team building activities. The initiatives were designed to test students’ ability to problem solve, communicate, create, and collaborate. Although stumped several times, the group persevered and exhibited patience to complete the challenges. The YMCA camp teaches the values of caring, respect, inclusion, and responsibility. Attributes needed to be successful in the workforce and life.
It was the best day ever for the best group ever. Our students were fortunate to attend camp with the help of the Wayland Union Education Foundation. The contribution will have a lasting positive impact on Wayland teens.
