Algebra with Practice Guides
Differentiate; Give Timely Feedback; Reduce Careless Flubs.
I'm teaching Algebra. Why a Practice Guide?
Students are doing their homework, but did they do it correctly? They can do the examples with the teacher in class, but can they do it on their own? All students are practicing, but there are more hands up right now than a teacher can possibly get to in 15 minutes. Practice Guides help solve the student to teacher ratio problem (A ton of them to one of me!).
Self-Checking
With a practice guide all problems will have the same answer. Students receive immediate feedback on the accuracy of their work. Careless errors are easier to find and eradicate with a predictable answer. Teacher knows at a glance if student work is accurate.
Easily Differentiate
One option: Teacher occupied tutoring a pull-out group? Proficient students can work independently with the practice guide. Another option: Use the practice guide to choose problems for class practice. Mixed ability problems can be placed on the board. Students work at a level appropriate for their needs. All arrive at the same final answer.
