Message From The Principal
Good Morning Thayer Families!
I wanted to take a moment to update you on a conversation I had with all of the students at Thayer this morning. I am excited to share with you that next school year our Thayer Campus on Lawrence Street will be moving into the Farley Building on Flagg Drive. This building currently is home to the Framingham Public Schools Central Office and housed MassBay Community College up until this past December 2023. With MassBay having moved to their new location on Franklin Street, this has allowed us to seize an opportunity and provide our students with updated classrooms, a proper cafeteria and gym space for basketball and other physical education. Our students will also have a dedicated entrance to use to enter and exit the building.
In the coming weeks and months, we will take students over to the Farley building to not only check out the new space but also engage in conversations about how they would like to see the space come together. We believe that this new space will allow us to continue to meet the academic, social-emotional, and post secondary planning needs of our students and I am excited to share it with them soon!
To that end, I also wanted to take an opportunity to share that we have three visits coming up so students can explore their post secondary options. We have invited MassBay Community College, the Peterson Trade School, as well as Job Corp to come in to provide information to students on their programming. Additionally, we will be taking a field trip with any interested students to MassBay’s new campus on Franklin Street. We will provide students and their families with updates as we get them!
Please feel free to reach out with any questions you might have!
Sincerely,
Amy
Attendance
I wanted to take a moment to remind students and families about the importance of consistent, full day attendance at school. The biggest factor in students finding academic success is being at school every day. Our classes start at 9:15am and ends at 1:30. Students are able to enter the building as early as 8:30 to engage in credit recovery or complete other work. Additionally, students are able to engage in additional credit recovery opportunities from 1:30-2:15.
While the Thayer campus offers additional flexibility with both academics and scheduling, students should not be leaving the building without permission and/or signing themselves out without a parent or guardian notifying Mrs. Hauck in the main office. If a student is on a work study schedule or has a modified schedule based on remaining credits, those dismissals can occur without a parent or guardian calling the school.
Again, these systems are put into place so that students can meet graduation and attendance requirements.
Program Information Sessions!
Ms. Ramirez (FHS School Counseling Department Head) and I have been meeting individually with students to review credits and discuss post high school plans with all students. While we are still meeting with students, we will be scheduling the following programs to come in to speak with any interested students!
- MassBay Community College - https://www.massbay.edu/
- Peterson Trade School - https://www.petersonschool.com/
- Job Corp - https://www.jobcorps.gov/
We will keep students posted on specific dates. We will also schedule a field trip over to the new MassBay Campus in Framingham!
