THANK YOU JENNIFER RICHARDS FOR DONATING CANDY TREATS TO OUR PBIS PROGRAM!
CONGRATULATIONS MR. CORKINS!
Mr. Corkins received a $2500 grant from MEC (Midwest Energy and Communications). He will use the grant to purchase a saltwater tank for his classroom and to facilitate a salmon program with students. Mr. Corkins is teaching AP Environmental Science and Marine and Freshwater Science at the high school this year. The addition of this aquarium will benefit his students in the classroom. NICE JOB MR. CORKINS and CONGRATULATIONS!
STAFF SPOTLIGHT--Mr. AARON WEBER!
I was born in St. Joseph and have been a lifelong resident of southwestern Michigan.
I am in my 27th year of teaching with all of those being here at Watervliet High School. I have also coached the cross country team for all those years as well as coaching in the track program the last dozen or so years. I have had the opportunity to teach many different courses including World History, U.S. History, World Geography, and Street Law. Currently I teach Government, Economics, Psychology, and Sociology.
As for family life, I have two sons that both graduated from Watervliet and have three step-children in grades 7th, 8th, and 10th. My wife is an Instructional Facilitator for Special Education in the Benton Harbor school district.
When not teaching, coaching, or parenting, I like to listen to music, attend concerts, read, and watch Jeopardy, European soccer, and Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Of the many things that make me proud to be Panther, the best is having the opportunity to witness so many of our students grow into competent and caring young adults that are ready to take on the world that is waiting for them.
Something that might surprise people is that despite having a crippling fear of heights, I once got the courage up to skydive. An extraordinary experience that proves sometimes the greatest thrills in life come from overcoming your fears.
WHAT'S UP IN TRANSITION CLASSES?
In Transitions we continue to work on individual student goal setting. Students have used this time to work on how best to be successful in all their classes while also considering plans for transitioning to life after high school. We are excited for upcoming plans to reformat how students are supported in Transitions classes during the second semester.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Our teachers really appreciated the parent provided dinner that took place in the fall during parent teacher conferences. We are in the process of setting that up again for our faculty for FEBRUARY 8th at 3:00 PM.
If you have a dish, dessert, drinks, or any item that you are willing to provide for the staff on the evening of parent/teacher conferences, we would appreciate it!
Email Ms. Powers at cpowers@watervlietps.org with your donated item!
SPANISH CLASS UPDATE!
I want to start this off with saying how proud I am of all the Spanish students and how well they did with exams! These students did a great job staying prepared for our exam.
We finished Semester 1 on a high note and now we are gearing up for the rest of the year. Spanish 1 is going to start learning about clothing vocabulary and working on improving our sentence building. We will also start working on seeing how verbs work. As for Spanish 2, we are going to start learning past tense verbs. This work will be key, our goal is to start reading a book!
