Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,

As shared by Chancellor Ferebee, DC Public Schools will start Term 2 in a virtual learning posture. When students return to virtual learning on Monday, they should continue to log into Canvas, as previous. Their classroom teacher, which has not changed, will provide any updated links or schedules, as applicable. You may find DCPS updates using the DCPS Reopening Plans link, below. We will provide any Hyde-Addison ES specific updates, when applicable.

Please be reminded that there will be no school on Wednesday, in honor of Veterans Day.

Hyde-Addison Elementary Schools

During asynchronous learning this week, your child had the opportunity to participate in their grade's Shoot for the Stars challenge! Please help them fill out this short form to let us know how many "stars" they were able to record so we can celebrate them at the next Schoolwide Meeting, which is on November 18!

We are excited to launch the new opportunities for your child to engage in during Advisory 2's Wonderful Wednesday: Full STEAM Ahead!

Project Based Learning

Full STEAM Ahead is a project-based learning approach that builds off the success of Virtual Field Trips in Advisory 1. It is available as an option for all students and will provide them the opportunity to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). There will be a launch session at 9:00am, lots of time for them to work on their project, and then a share-out session at 2:00pm.

Art Extension

In addition, at 12:00pm students in grades 2-5 will have the opportunity to participate in a less-structured, supervised lunch bunch with their classmates and students in grades PreK4-1st will have the opportunity to develop their fine motor skills during an Art Extension.

Schoolwide Meeting

Our Schoolwide Meeting will continue to take place for the entire community at 3:00pm and the Student Support Team will share a wellness strategy with us all at that time! See the full schedule below and note that Wonderful Wednesdays will launch on November 18 in Advisory 2 because November 11 is Veterans Day and there is no school. The schedule can also be found in the Hyde-Addison Resource Hub on Canvas, which is where all of the Teams links will be available.

Small Groups

Please note that we will be working with many different small groups of students on Wednesdays to provide individualized supports. If you receive an email from a Hyde-Addison staff member about scheduling a time for small group or 1:1 meeting times on Wednesdays, please make it a priority.

We are excited that DCPS is partnering with Trendency Research to understand more about your experiences with learning from home. It is important to us that your perspectives are considered as we plan for the remainder of the school year.

Your responses are confidential, no identifying information will appear in the survey results, and all answers provided will be reported in the aggregate.

You must create a Trendency account to share your opinion and new survey questions will be released every few weeks:

Did you know that there are many ways to support Hyde-Addison and that 100% of the proceeds from the PTA's fundraising initiatives go directly to the school? As we prepare for the eventual return to in-class learning, we are grateful for donations of any amount - whether at once or on a recurring basis - to fund critical health and safety measures (e.g., masks, hand sanitizer, plexiglass dividers) as well as instructional materials. Also, don't forget to link your Amazon account and other loyalty programs to the Hyde-Addison PTA, and ask your employer about any gift matching programs!

• 11/11- No School for Students or Staff (Veterans Day)
• 11/18- Advisory 1 Report Cards should be available on the ASPEN Parent Portal
• 11/24-11/27- No School for Students or Staff (Thanksgiving)
