9th Grade Persuasive Speech: The 9th graders completed their persuasive unit speeches, receiving an introduction to research at the high school: database use, Noodletools, Google Suite, and Screencastify were all areas of focus.
11 History, Major Battles of WWI: Library resources: books, space, libguides, and databases, were used for 11th graders to create an infographic on the major battles of WWI in their history classes.
English 9 IR Book Pass: Students participated in a book pass to prepare for their 9th grade independent reading projects.
English 11 Problem Paper: This year we are rolling out the problem paper to additional 11th grade classes following a pilot of this project by one group of classes last year.

English 9 To Kill a Mockingbird Broadcast Projects: 9th grade students built their contextual knowledge of TKAM by exploring the time period in which the novel is set and developing newsbroadcasts and podcasts to communicate their learnings.
English 12 Futures Paper: This year we are rolling out a new paper for our 12-02 classes that focuses on career and college exploration. We are all very excited about this new approach to the research paper!

- Met with four West teachers to develop new and strengthen recurring projects to be co-taught in the library.
- Met with another district librarian to collaborate on joint projects across grade levels and share our makerspace programming.

Lunch and Learn Programming
- In November, we hosted our first Lunch and Learn program for the students. We were honored and excited to host Robert Kagel, Chester County Commissioner, who spoke with our students about his career and the path he took to get where he is.
Makerspace
- The Maker Table in November started with our Buddha boards. This may have been our most popular table so far this year! The students loved relaxing and practicing mindfulness with this activity.
- The Maker Table then moved on to our collaborative Stick-Together poster. Our students also loved this program-- completing this entire sticker poster in just a few days.
Library Club
- Reading Olympics is in full swing. They made thier shirts for their competition and are diligently working through their lists!
Aevidum Club
- Aevidum executive council meets every other Wednesday morning in the library.
- The general Aevidum club meets once a month in the library.

Library Mission
Our Mission
The mission of the library program in the Downingtown Area School District is to provide a dynamic learning environment that instills essential 21st century literacy skills through direct and collaborative instruction and the use of a wide variety of print and digital resources. Our goal is to ensure that students have the opportunity to become inquiring and engaged global citizens who are empowered to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
