The Mustang Messenger
April 14th, 2023
Greetings Mustang Families!
I hope this message finds you doing well and I hope your family had a relaxing and healthy Spring Break.
Next Thursday, April 20th, is Open House and a minimum day for students. Students will be released from school at 12:10pm and will be on a 2-period, A day. We look forward to seeing families at Open House.
We need your help raising Bucks for Books and Band! The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is sponsoring a fundraiser and drawing to raise $15,000 for our library and instrumental music program! Check out the information below about how to donate and what awesome prizes our generous community donated that YOU have a chance to win.
Students will start CAASPP testing next week. Attendance is vital each day and appointments should be avoided during testing time. Students must be well-rested, avoid stressful situations if possible, and eat a balanced breakfast and lunch on testing days to concentrate. These efforts may ensure valid scores that represent what students know and can do. Our schools still provide breakfast/brunch and lunch at no cost to students. All students have the opportunity to eat at school. Rancho Pico uses the state test scores and other data to help guide and improve our practice as a school.
Kindest regards,
Catherine Nicholas, Ed.D.

CAASPP Testing
It is the testing season for all schools in California. Starting Monday, April 17 Rancho Pico students will spend a few hours each week completing the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress). We use data from CAASPP to help guide and improve our instruction at Rancho Pico. Here are some other important reminders and tips for parents and students for this testing season:
Attendance is critical - please make sure your students are dropped off in a timely manner in the morning so they do not miss any important testing instructions or testing time. Here is the testing schedule RP CAASPP Testing Schedule Spring 23
Parents should avoid making appointments, and students should only miss if they are too ill to come to school. Make-ups are challenging, and students do not do as well during make-ups.
Eating a healthy breakfast and lunch and being hydrated are essential for the brain to concentrate.
It would be a good idea to have students bring their own water bottles (we have refilling stations on campus).
Please remind all students that they can access free breakfast/brunch and lunch at school.
Students need a good night's sleep (limiting electronics at night may help).
Students should avoid stressful situations/conflicts when possible.
If you have questions about testing please contact Mr. Hopper at thopper@hartdistrict.org
Thank you for your help and support!
Assistant Principals Week
Last week, during Spring Break, it was National Assistant Principals Week. Thank you to Mrs. Hong and Mr. Hopper for all they do for the Rancho Pico community. We appreciate you!
April is School Library Month
Please join me in thanking our amazing school librarian, Mrs. McCleary for all of her hard work and dedication to Rancho Pico. April is School Library Month and April 4th was Librarian Appreciation Day.
Mrs. McCleary has created a welcoming environment for students to learn, study, research, read, craft, game, and discover.
Rancho Pico Plays at the West Rancho Festival
We are so proud of our amazing musicians and wonderful conductor Mrs. Stoffel who played at the SCSBOA Festival at West Ranch High School.

Rancho Pico Robotic Team's Henry Mayo Experience
On March 31st, the Rancho Pico Robotics Team had the opportunity to try out the Da Vinci Surgical Robot at Henry Mayo. They competed against Rio Norte, Placerita, and Hart High School students to see who could get the highest score. The Rancho Pico Probots scored the highest out of all the junior high students. Congratulations to Jayden Hwang and Reid LLewellyn who both scored 73 points - just 7 points less than Dr. Sevan Stepanian who uses the Da Vinci Surgical Robot regularly!
