"Make Your Own Music Video", June 17-21, 2019; 8:30 am - 11:30 am
After very successful camps over the past two summers, we are delighted to be offering this experience again where incoming 6-8th grade students can direct, edit, and choreograph their own music videos.
Small groups of students will sing their favorite songs. Then they will choreograph and pick filming locations. Next, they record their video using high-quality cameras. Finally, students will edit their video using industry standard software.
Over the 5-day class, the students will learn:
The process of creating a music video and the various associated jobs
Storyboard creation
The basics of video/audio recording and editing
Greenscreen techniques & multi-cam editing
Please feel free to contact Dr. Jason Meltzer (meltzer@ogschool.org) or Mr. Logan Farris (farris@ogschool.org) if you have any questions or are having challenges registering for the class.

"Make Your Own Video Games", June 17-21, 2019; 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Using Scratch, a graphical programming language designed by MIT, incoming 3rd-5th grade students will learn to construct your own interactive animations, games, and stories. Scratch helps us learn to think creatively, reason systematically and work collaboratively. Through an online account, our projects will be accessible even after camp ends, so you can continue creating at home.
Working on a computer or iPad, students will explore the Scratch environment through guided activities and experimentation. They will learn the basics of game design such as character development, gameplay, and genres. On the technical side, students will create sprites, animations, and variables. Types of games will include mazes, platform, and more open-ended projects such as musical performances and storytelling. Students will also create their own controllers using Makey-Makeys.
Over the 5-day class, the students will learn:
Introduction to game design
Basic character design and interaction in Scratch
Create levels, timers, scoreboards, and other interactive tools
Incorporate sound and music
Play each other's games and provide feedback
Please feel free to contact Dr. Jason Meltzer (meltzer@ogschool.org) or Mr. Logan Farris (farris@ogschool.org) if you have any questions or are having challenges registering for the class.

PTO
Meet the Candidate Night
The PTO would like to thank the candidates for the Oak Grove School Board of Education, Agata Karpowicz, Raabia Khan, and Tony Giamis, for sharing their views and opinions at our Meet the Candidate night that took place on Thursday, March 14th. Amy Frantz is also running but was unable to participate in the forum due to a prior work commitment. We would also like to thank Dr. Lemon and the school for allowing us to conduct this forum and everyone that attended. Don’t forget to vote on April 2nd!
K & 2 Open House and Ice Cream Social
The kindergarten and second grade Open House is on Wednesday, March 20, from 6:30pm-7:30pm. The PTO will be providing complimentary frozen treats in the elementary cafeteria. The ingredients and allergy information will be provided near the treats. There will also be a non-dairy option. This year, there will be some Oak Grove spirit items available for purchase as well.
Variety Show
We are thrilled with the record number of acts trying out for this year’s variety show! Tryouts are April 8/9. Your child was assigned a tryout time and given a permission slip when they signed up last week. An extra copy of the permission slip is included in the virtual backpack if yours didn’t make it home. If you have questions about the variety show, please email us at vshow@ogschool.org. Please work hard over the next few weeks to have your acts ready for tryouts. We have limited practice time before the show, so it is important that the acts are 'show ready’ at tryouts!
We Need Your Photos!
Please share your pictures of all your school related events. When uploading don't forget to comment with the child's grade and event when possible. Thank you for sharing!
