Morning Meeting is the best way to start the day!

Morning Meeting is an engaging way to start each day. Each classroom at Hometown Elementary works to build a strong sense of community by gathering every morning for 10-15 minutes to interact with one another during this time. Morning meeting begins with students gathering together and greeting one another by name.

PTA Bookfair

Kolmar Avenue Elementary School recently witnessed a spectacular PTA-organized book fair that showcased a rich tapestry of books suitable for all age groups. Dedicated PTA members transformed the school gym into a reader's paradise, ensuring students and parents had access to a diverse range of literary treasures. The event not only promoted a love for reading but also provided an excellent opportunity for community bonding. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved for making this event a resounding success!

Meet Ms. Rayyan, Sward's New 3rd Grade Teacher

Author Spotlight: Sebastian Morales!

One of our former Covington Cougars was working on something very exiciting last year! This summer he finally got to share the news. Sebastian Morales a now OLHMS mustang recently published his first book "Sword Guy". This book takes us on a journey where we meet a new "hero" in town and his name is Sword Guy.

What I Need-WIN

The 'WIN' or 'What I Need' block is built into the K-5 schedule to give students the opportunity to work in small groups with their teacher or Interventionist. Math and Reading Interventionists may even push-into classrooms to give additional support to students. Reading small groups may include reteaching of Fundations concepts or extra practice with fluency.

Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) Parent Hub

Did you know that this year all D123 schools are implementing the Amplify CKLA language arts curricular resource?

As part of the adoption, K-5 D123 families have access to the Amplify CKLA Caregiver Hub which is a dedicated platform designed to support families and caregivers in helping students engage with the Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) program. This hub provides resources, guides, and tools that assist students in their English Language Arts journey from Grades PreK-5. It includes a range of resources such as Knowledge Builder videos, a Sound Library for younger students, the Vocab App for Grades 3-5, recorded daily read-alouds, and more. The purpose of the Caregiver Hub is to offer families an organized, comprehensive set of tools and information to effectively support their children's learning at home, ensuring they make the most of the CKLA program. Back-to-School Extravaganza kicks off school year!

Families in the Oak Lawn and Hometown areas were in for a treat this past Saturday, August 26, as the Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 hosted its "Back to School Extravaganza" at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School. Throughout the day, an estimated 400-500 people made their way to the event, relishing the festivities.
