Mrs. May's Notes - February 1, 2024
Moving Onward in 2024
Redistricting Plan Approved on January 22, 2024 at the School Board Meeting
Please see the redistricting plan per Dr. Larry Shifflett, superintendent, on the RCPS website or here at https://rockinghamcountypsva.sites.thrillshare.com/o/rcps/page/rcps-redistricting. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please call or email me. We look forward to welcoming some students from Cub Run Elementary School to our Lacey family.
Would you like to cut and donate your hair in March, 2024?
Call or email Mrs. May. The date has been moved from May to March, 2024.
Do you, your child, or another family member or friend have at least 8 inches of hair that you wish to cut and donate to an organization that makes wigs for cancer and Alopecia patients? If so, please join us in our haircutting project on Friday, March 15. We will cut our hair during the Morning News so all students and staff can watch.
Parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders - SOL Test Preparation
I'm often asked how parents can help their children at home to prepare for the VA SOL tests that will take place in May, 2024. Here are some suggestions:
1. Review completed work that your child has brought home. Go over the topics, vocabulary, and concepts.
2. Related to math, help your child to continue to learn their basic math facts with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Being fluent in these areas will help greatly on math test day.
3. Go onto the VDOE website and do some practice Science, Math, and Reading SOL tests. This will better prepare your child for the types of questions that will be on the test (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/teaching-learning-assessment/student-assessment/sol-practice-items-all-subjects/released-tests-item-sets-all-subjects).
4. Last, but certainly not least, remind your child to relax and "show what they know." The teachers have been working very hard to help your child to understand the expected content, and they are very capable of passing their SOL tests. I believe in them, and they know you do, too.
