Dear Canby Families,


It’s here! The first day of school has come, and our schools are now filled with staff and students. We hope this week has been a positive one for you and your family. We are thrilled to be off and running as we continue to consider and act on our district vision question: “How do we create a vibrant and engaged learning community dedicated to growth for all?”

Talking to Your Kids About School

We all look forward to reconnecting with our kids after school, but it seems like asking: “How was your day?” rarely works! Here are some specific questions that might get them sharing …


  • Who did you play with today?

  • Who did you sit with at lunch?

  • Tell me about a time you felt the happiest today?

  • Who did you help today?

  • What challenged you today? What felt hard?

  • What did you have the most fun learning about today?

  • When did you feel most proud of yourself today?

  • Tell me about a high and low (or roses/thorns) from today.


Try picking one question and follow their lead!

Bus Transportation

Student Transportation of America provides bus transportation for Canby School District. Together with STA, we want to make every ride a great ride! If you plan to take advantage of bus transportation this year, please check out the notes below!



  • This year’s bus routes are now posted on our transportation web page and will be updated weekly in September, but for the latest route information and to track your student’s bus in real time, use the Traversa Ride 360 app – available online and for free in the App Store and Google Play.


  • To add a student in the app for the first time, click “Find Student” and fill in all fields: the student’s six-digit student ID number, their school (for high school students, try the “small loop” option first), and their grade level (include a zero for single-digit grade levels, e.g. 09 for a freshman). For help, contact STA at 503-263-1007.

Check out the new monthly meal menus here. If you have not applied for free school meals, do so today either online or using a paper application.
