WALL OF HONOR CEREMONY FOR CLASS OF 2021
Last night, the District was able to celebrate three individuals who joined the MPSD Wall of Honor at a wonderful event held at Haddad's Ocean Cafe.
Bruce Davenport, Richard Gardner & Marie Kurmin were inducted as part of the Class of 2021. Together, the three have given 92 years of service to the MPSD learning community and impacted thousands of students, staff and families during that time. As teachers, counselors, administrators or volunteers, these three amazing people did all they could to meet the needs of generations of Marshfield students. They were joined last night by family, friends, colleagues and past students.
For those who did not know, in 2017 the Marshfield School Committee had the wisdom to create this honor to, “foster pride in our system through recognition of individual achievement of former students, teachers, coaches/advisors, administrators, school committee members and friends of the Marshfield Public Schools”.
Last night's honorees join eight other individuals who have been previously selected to the Wall of Honor. They are:
Nancy Currie, John Putnam, Linda Stranzl, Linda Francis, Maureen Jordan, Carol Shrand, Jean Moriarty and Fred Podbelski.

EDUCATOR OF THE WEEK
Congratulations to GWS 1st Grade Teachers, Ms. Maura Hayes, on being named Educator of the Week.
Ms. Hayes is in her second year as a classroom teacher at the GWS and she brings a great deal of energy, enthusiasm and fun to her classroom. She is also a strong instructor who has worked tirelessly to help roll out the new math curriculum (Bridges) this year and she also sits on the GWS School Council. Social Emotional Learning is a big focus for Ms. Hayes as well and she has helped champion the new "spot cards" that the GWS uses to reward students (or classes) when they are "caught" being kind.
Our team of educators at the GWS are fantastic and Ms. Hayes has worked hard to help make the team even stronger. We are lucky to have her. Thank you Ms. Hayes. #bettertogether.
THANK YOU SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
In addition, the STM voted to put $600,000 towards new school generators along with an additional $200,000 that will augment our maintenance line item. This will allow us to address extraordinary maintenance repairs when they arise over the course of the school year.

HOMEWORK FREE- VETERANS DAY WEEKEND
Once again, in honor of Veterans Day, the Marshfield Public Schools will be Homework Free across the district on Veterans Day and over the Veterans Day weekend.
We started this tradition seven years ago and going “homework free” in conjunction with Veterans Day has been greatly appreciated by students and staff, our families and, most importantly, our Veterans. The district continues to focus attention on the social-emotional well-being of our students and staff, and by adjusting their homework schedule for Veterans Day, it has a big impact on our educational stakeholders. Annually, the issue of homework is one that has generated a lot of discussion across the region and it has been reported to teachers and administrators that schedules and stress levels continue to grow as the year progresses. We hope that these homework free nights can help relieve some of that stress.
In addition, each year we have used this time away from homework to allow our students and staff, and their families, to focus on the importance of recognizing Veterans Day. In lieu of homework, it is our hope that members of our school community, as they have over the years, will find the time on Veterans Day (or over the weekend) to thank a Veteran they may know for their service to our country. The person they reach out to could be a relative, a neighbor or a friend. In addition, if members of our school community can attend the Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11th at Veterans Memorial Park, I know that the dedicated group of men and women, who have given so much to our country, would greatly appreciate the gesture.
As a district, we like to say that we are "better together" and this simple gesture is just one more example of our community coming together to honor some very special people. #ThankaVet
