SME newsletter for families and the community
Dear Parents,
We have a lot of exciting things going on this month. Please check the calendar for all events.
SC Ready and SC PASS testing will be in the first two weeks of May for our third, fourth, and fifth graders. It will be important for students to be present on those days, have a good night's sleep, and eat a good breakfast. It will also be important for students to work slowly and do their very best! We want to see what they have learned this year!
K-2 students will be taking MAP Fluency and MAP Growth assessments. It will also be important for them to show their best work on these.
We use all of these scores in preparation for working with students next year. We want to provide the best instruction that is personalized for all students.
SC Ready Dates
Our 3rd - 5th graders will take SC Ready on the following dates:
May 2 - ELA Day 1
May 3 - ELA Day 2
May 9 - Math
May 10 - Science (only 4th graders)
**Please avoid these dates when scheduling appointments. Thank you!
Attention Fifth Grade Parents:
The fifth-grade awards and end-of-year celebration will be held on May 16 at Daniel High School at 6:00 pm.
Pastries for Parents
In the past, we have usually done Muffins for Mom, etc. However, we want to recognize our moms, dads, and other support without causing any student upset because mom or dad is unable to come. This year we will have Pastries for Parents from 7:15 - 8:15 on May 22 in an effort to recognize the special people in a students' life. We are combining the day so that students are more able to have someone attend with them.
The way it will work is that students and special guest(s) will enter through the cafeteria doors. Students will go through the line and get breakfast. Parents will get their pastry and coffee/water from one of the tables in the lunchroom. Then parents and students will meet to enjoy breakfast together. After breakfast, students will go to classrooms and parents will exit the building. Please do not walk your student to class on that day.
Please remember that we do have 550 students so it will possibly be crowded in the cafeteria. You are welcome to bring a picnic blanket and eat outside or wherever you can find a spot. We have a picnic area in the back of the school and much ground space.
We know that May can be a busy time, but we are so appreciative of all you do for your students. We want to let you know that you make our jobs easier with all of the support you provide.
3K and 4K spots still available
If you have a child who would meet the qualifications for 3K or 4K, there are still openings available in those classes. Please visit: https://www.pickens.k12.sc.us/page/pre-k-information-page
This page provides information about the programs and gives directions for registration.
Field Day
For safety reasons, we do not allow parents and relatives to come watch field day.
Thank you for your help!
DHS Senior Walk through
On May 22, DHS Seniors will be walking through our school around 9:20. If you have a senior who is graduating and you would like to attend the walk through, please come to the office before 9:20 and sign in. Then we will have you go to the cafeteria to form a line for students to walk through as they exit the school. Congratulations to all of our Seniors! We can't wait to celebrate them!
