Sydney Carter Brings Home a Crown!

Congratulations to Miss West 2020 Sydney Carter for earning the Portsmouth River Days 2nd Runner Up title at the queens pageant on 12/19/20. Sydney represented PWHS with poise and class winning other awards as well: The Kennedy McGraw Charisma Award, The Emily Hicks Spirit of River Days Award, and second place in the Float competition.

Homecoming Scheduled for Jan. 23

Portsmouth West High School will hold its homecoming ceremony Jan. 23. The ceremony, along with the basketball games, will be livestreamed on PWHS Facebook page (link in next section).

Ashlynn Pfau

Ashlynn will be escorted by her parents Jeremy and Davida Pfau. Ashlynn has been involved in Beta Club, Girl’s Soccer, and band. As a member of the swim team she will be presented with the SOC Team II award for the 200 individual IM for swimming this year.

Bailee Wireman

Bailee will be escorted by her parents, Ben and Cindy Wireman of Portsmouth. Bailee is Beta Club President, a member of chorus, and on the girl’s soccer team and swim team. She will soon be presented with the SOC II award for the 100 backstroke.

Madison Warren

Madison is being escorted by Adam and Heather Benshoff. Madison has been a member of the varsity girls soccer team.

Sydney Burchett

Sydney will be escorted by her parents, Jeff and Dawn Burchett. Sydney has been a member of the girls soccer team and swim team. She also participates in 4-H.

Emma Sayre

Emma will be escorted by her parents Chad and Allison Sayre. Emma has been involved this year in Key Club, varsity volleyball and varsity basketball and will be a member of the softball team this spring.

PWHS Choir continues holiday tradition

Boys Varsity Basketball Wins 8 Straight

Enjoying an 8 game winning streak, PWHS boys basketball team has found that tenacious defense wins games. Currently 9-3, the boys will take on the undefeated Wheelersburg Pirates on Friday, Jan. 22. You can watch and cheer the boys on virtually on our PWHS Facebook page.

Girls Basketball Team

The girls basketball team is currently 6-6 for the 2020-2021 season. Though young, the team's strong skills both offensively and defensively continue to improve and guarantee they will be a dominant force in the near future.

SOC Team 2 Awards:

200 Meter Medley Relay: Caleb Hazelbaker, Rielly Carr, Hayden Runions, Carson Malnar

Men's 200 Meter Freestyle: Aiden Robinson

Women's 200 Meter Individual Medley: Ashlynn Pfau

Men's 100 Meter Butterfly: Hayden Runions

Women's 100 Meter Backstroke: Bailee Wireman

This season, the girls have defeated Portsmouth, Northwest and Ironton. The boys have tied Portsmouth once, defeated Northwest three times, and defeated Burg twice.
