JPII Announces Hibernian Essay Contest Winners
“Irish History through Mythology- Heroes and Heroines”
Sixteen JPII juniors have been recognized for their participation in the nationwide writing contest sponsored by the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH).
Cheryl Daniels, president of the LAOH, presented the 16 JPII winners and participants of the junior class with certificates and announced those receiving special recognitions. “I admire the time, talent and dedication that it takes to submit these compositions and it is days like this that make it all worthwhile for me to present these recognitions, and a check,” she said. The LAOH intuited the writing contest to help younger generations learn about Irish history, culture and traditions that may be lost as each older generation passes on.
The essay submissions came from teacher Bill Damude’s history class. “I initially asked the kids to participate two years ago because the Hibernians have been such big supporters of the school,” said Mr. Damude. “As our students continue to do so well, I am impressed that, not only do they enjoy the subject matter and its historical value but are creating well-written essays with great insight.”
Congratulation to the following students:
1st Place – Megan Shaw, $200
2nd Place – Molly Rembold, $100
