Dear Siskiyou School Parents,
I hope all families had a wonderful long weekend and enjoyed playing in the snow.
The snow, when it arrived on campus, was so beautiful! Teachers and children enjoyed making snow people together, rolling big snow balls on the woodchips and just enjoying watching the snow fall. What a gift when our valley is covered in a white blanket and families can go to Mt. Ashland to enjoy skiing and sledding.
On Friday we had an all school assembly to acknowledge Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Mr. Alvarez shared stories from his life and about the impact he made on the civil rights movement.
Now we are back on campus with two more weeks of the first semester. Classes 1-5 will finish up with Chinese for this year and we will celebrate the Chinese New Year at our assembly on Friday, February 2nd. A big thank you to Ms. Carroll (张老师) for teaching Mandarin to the children. We look forward to Seniora Diez teaching Spanish starting on January 29th for the rest of the year to all the classes in the school.
We will gather on Thursday, January 18th at 5:30pm for History & Vision Night. We will hear from the board, the faculty and one alum student and parent. We will share about the history of the school and about our vision. We hope one parent per family can participate in the event and also attend the parent evenings afterwards. We look forward to seeing everyone then.
Enjoy the week! Warmly, Aurilia
History and Vision Night is an important milestone in our school year. The event serves as our annual meeting to discuss our financial health as required for our non-profit status. We've taken the opportunity when we gather to expand the scope into telling the story of the history of our school as well as our vision for where we're going. Please join us for this adults-only evening for a moment of reflection, examination of our current reality, and our future path. After refreshments and presentations, join your class teacher for an important class meeting.
This event is sponsored by the board, faculty, and staff of the Siskiyou School and we hope to see you there!
Join us on Thursday, January 24th at 6:30 for our second DEI Circle for Siskiyou Parents. This facilitated circle is the talk about how we embody diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as individuals and integrate it in our community. Led by parents and faculty at the school, we will practice speaking openly and listening deeply about the effects of racism and all the 'isms that we as a community navigate. Only for Siskiyou School parents, but please join if you hadn't come to the previous circle.
Kindergarten Enrollment - Starting Soon!
We're gearing up to start our Kindergarten enrollment process for 2024. If you have a kindergarten student, please be sure to contact Kristin at kristin.beers@siskiyouschool.org to ensure you're on the list to be contacted in the next weeks. We're so proud of the program Ms. Caterina, Ms. Rebecca, and all the inaugural families have helped us build this year, we'd love to have you and your child with us next year! Thank you!
Enrollment is also open for our 2024 first grade! Give us a call!
Lost and Found
Please check Lost and Found, it is overflowing with lovely water bottles and cute hats! Lost and Found will be available through conferences (Feb 15 and 16) and then donated to clear more space! Our Lost and Found is in the front hallway across from the doors into Pine Hall and behind the purple curtains.
Thank you!

JANUARY 23 THE SOUL OF DISCIPLINE: 9:15-10:30 a.m.
Revisioning how we guide children through their formative years so they can learn to guide
themselves. This is a rich look at undoing what we think we know about discipline so that we can relax into setting healthy boundaries with warmth and clarity knowing how to meet the child in the developmental stage they are in.
JANUARY 30 WHOLE BRAIN PARENTING: 9:15-10:30 a.m.
Communicating from an integrative state means that the brain is hooked up from back to front and right to left. This coffee will offer ways to support yourself and your child in a Whole Brain approach to communicating and relating. You will get wonderful tools to support opening the gateways to Whole Brain approaches to all aspects of family life!
JANUARY 27 MINI MORN: BUILDING THE BRIDGE. 9:00-noon
Come join us for a Mini Morn to learn about the power of crosslateral movement and activities to support your child’s (and your)
physical, emotional, and intellectual capacities. “When I added these movements into our daily life at home, I felt the effects as increased wellbring in our family. Homework, chores, everything flowed more easily! Thank you for this! - Mary Turner, parent, Bend OR
