5th Grade Teamwork
Students in Mr. Oostindie's class were tasked with saving Fred, the gummy worm, after his boat had capsized and his life preserver was stuck underneath his boat. They were only allowed to use 4 paper clips to rescue Fred by putting the life preserver on Fred, flip over the boat, and place Fred back into his boat.
I Can Do Hard Things!
Students in Mrs. Nykerk's classroom drew pictures and shared about some of the hard things they can do. This was a corresponding activity to the read aloud on Monday, “I Can Do Hard Things.” Students drew pictures of things that used to be hard, but they’ve improved in, or things that are still hard and they are working to get better at.
Math Games
During math time on August 30th, students in Mrs. Tier's class played number line squeeze with a Mrs. Tiers' twist. Students built a number line road and then drove cars along the road as they tried to guess their partner's number. It filled the room with laughter and students got to practice concepts of greater than and less than.
iPad Time
This week, students in Mrs. Oddy's class were able to get out the IPADS! They went over appropriate use and expectations. Then, the students were able to read on EPIC! They were so excited to explore the new books!

Friday Night Football
On Friday, August 25th, during the JV rescheduled game, players were able to defeat Hopkins in a 22-12 scored game. Varsity Football also came out on top with 40-7 as the final score. It was a great night to be a Wildcat!

Girls Varsity Golf
On Monday, August 28th, the Wayland Girls Golf team held their own in the OK Gold Jamboree held at Orchard Hills. Great work ladies!
Boys Varsity Tennis
On Wednesday, August 30th, the Boys Varsity Tennis team traveled to Cedar Springs where they came away with a 7-1 victory. Congratulations team!
Celebrations
Retirement Party
On Thursday, August 31st, Administration staff, maintenance staff, and building secretaries celebrated the retirement of Amy Syers. Amy has been employed with the district for 22 years, most recently working in accounting. Happy retirement Amy!
