Junior Beta at GWA
This week GWA held its Inaugural Junior National Beta Club Induction Ceremony. All members in grades sixth - eighth who were inducted held a 90% grade average from the previous year. These students are charged with displaying upstanding character and leadership. In addition, they will be required to participate in seven community service hours over the course of the upcoming school year. These requirements are based on the four pillars of National Beta: Achievement, Character, Leadership, and Service. Junior Beta members were encouraged to continue to uphold these values and become the leaders and examples of GWA. Congratulations to our new Junior Beta members on their fantastic achievement!
Mobile Mining
The sixth grade hosted Diamond Del’s Gem Mining Adventure on campus. This is an extension of the rocks and minerals unit being covered in class. It is an opportunity for students to gain experience with the process of identifying and classifying fifteen different rocks and minerals. Students got hands on practice panning, one of the many ways used to separate minerals from the less desirable mining ore.
Young Scientists
Our K5 students became scientists during their recent unit on apples. They observed a chemical reaction as baking soda and vinegar worked together to cause an eruption. Next, students made predictions about which ingredient would prevent an apple from turning brown. Most students voted that water would be the winning ingredient. After several hours, they discovered that lemon juice was the best ingredient for preserving apples.

Ms. Cecille's K4 class was the September winner for Paw Points in Library! During last month's Pup Rally, Ms. Cecille's class received a trophy, and celebrated with an outside story time during their library special. Also, they had first pick of the brand new books that have come in!

Sightseeing in Atlanta
Our exchange students from St. Paul's school in Barcelona Spain recently experienced the wonder and excitement of the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coke in Atlanta. The students enjoyed the sea lion show the most and tasting various soda flavors from around the globe. They also explored CNN Center, the iconic Centennial Olympic Park and Stone Mountain Park.
