ACORN - From Ms. Leann
The ACORN program has been busy with many exciting projects. The children in the 4th grade have been working on a garden map which is being made to scale by converting each 4 x 4 square foot to one square on graph paper. When it is completed, we will share it with the community. The 3rd graders have been working on several weaving projects and we hope to build an outdoor nature loom this Spring. The 1st and 2nd grades have direct seeded snap peas, onions, radishes and spinach, and also started a few things in the greenhouse.
All the classes have been enjoying caretaking the lovely bunnies, and preparing a space for planting a large cut flower garden. The children have also been constructing a dry creek bed out in the garden to provide a way to retain water, attract more plant and animal life, and create sanctuary. Please let me know if you would like to volunteer to help with this project in any way. Please email me at leann.tourzan@siskiyouschool.org

Dear Siskiyou School Parents,
Thank you for coming to campus to meet with the teachers for conferences last week. We hope they were fruitful and informative for you.
We can see the first signs of Spring – our campus is beautiful with blooming trees, bushes and flowers. The Clay Street ACORN Garden is busy with lots of projects. If you ever have a spare moment, please stop by the garden to see all that is happening there.
Children in all classes are well and are engaged in good learning. The 4th grade is preparing their class play to be performed in ten days. We hope you will join us for their evening performance on February 29th and the morning performance on March 1st.
Wrapping up Annual Giving: Even though the campaign is officially closed, we still need to raise about $40k. As our grants committee is working hard to find suitable grants for the school, we always need to ensure that all our school families gave towards Annual Giving. In the attempt to reach 100% participation, we will contact all parents who have not had the chance to give. We appreciate everyone’s support and generosity!
With gratitude and warmth, Aurilia
8th Grade Project Presentations
We're excited to see 8th grade projects coming up on our school calendar. Next month, the Dragonfly Class will present their 8th grade capstone projects to the Siskiyou School Community. They are asked to describe what topic they chose to study for their project, what they learned over their apprenticeship, and to respond to questions from the live audience. Please note the dates above and plan to join us in Pine Hall.
We’re happy to be able to share our 8th grade project presentations with our wider community over Zoom. A link to join us online will be sent to all currently enrolled parents on Monday, March 11th. You are welcome to tune in and check out the work done by the Dragonfly Class this year, but please, for the safety of our students, do NOT post this link over social media.
8th Grade Project Presentations will also be recorded and available to view through a YouTube link.
Butterfly Class - 3rd Grade
The Butterfly Class has been hard at work with their production of Thor Triumphant. With their first full run through behind them, they are now able to bring refinement and comedic timing to this wonderful play. Class parents have been working hard to provide backdrops and props for the stage and began costume fittings today. It has been a joy to see the class under the brilliant direction of Eve Smyth. They implement her ideas in real time and have a beautiful back and forth with her in the creative process. Each day they are more in tune with their characters and become more proficient in supporting one another and working as a group.
