Blackmore named Capturing Kids' Hearts National Showcase School
Blackmore Elementary was named a 2022-2023 Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School.
The Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schools® Award recognizes and celebrates schools producing exemplary outcomes using the Capturing Kids’ Hearts® Process. Award winners demonstrate a high level of performance and a positive culture and climate for learning.
It's time to enroll for the 2023-2024 school year
El Dorado Public Schools USD 490 is now enrolling for the 2023-2024 school year.
We will not collect textbook or technology fees, release next year’s optional items (sports passes, yearbooks, etc.), or have the free and reduced meal applications until after July 1.
To complete enrollment, log in to your PowerSchool Parent account. This can be accessed by navigating to the district website (www.usd490.org) and clicking "PowerSchool" at the top of the page or by logging in to your PowerSchool mobile app. The New Student portal can be accessed on the enrollment page: https://www.usd490.org/o/usd-490/page/enrollment-information

EHS seniors receive Myrrl Houck Memorial Scholarship
Twelve El Dorado High School seniors, all Summa Cum Laude graduates, were presented Myrrl Houck Memorial Scholarships at a reception Thursday, May 4, at the EHS library.
The honorees were: Gibson Baker, Adam Cavallaro, Logan Clark, Chloe Coiner, Jillian George, Jerica George, Abigail Hutchins, Brooklyn Jahn, Aodhfionn Mora-Bruce, Macy Parsons, Michael Riddle, and Kaydence Voyles.

PIE Awards over $24,000 in scholarships to EHS seniors
Partners in Education Foundation, Inc. (PIE), is proud to announce the 2023 scholarship awards for El Dorado High School graduates. We are awarding about $24,000 in scholarships, plus 64 hours of tuition/fees, etc. for Butler Community College, bringing this year’s future support to almost $30,000.

Grandview Teacher Jim Shum wins KAKE Golden Apple
Grandview fourth grade teacher Jim Shum received a Golden Apple Award from KAKE News on May 9.
This award honors teachers who are making a positive difference in schools. Community members can nominate educators who are creative in the way they support, motivate and encourage a lifetime of learning, in and out of the classroom.

EHS students wrap up physics class with rocket launches
Grandview Fifth Graders launch pressure rockets
Grandview fifth grade students launched pressure rockets as the grand finale of their rocket unit in Science on May 15.
The body of the rockets were two-liter bottles. Students learned about aerodynamics as part of the science lesson, and designed elements to attach to the nose and sides that would help their rocket fly.

Blackmore students attend career fair
Blackmore fourth and fifth grade students attended a career fair on April 28 to learn more about potential future employment opportunities in the El Dorado area. Several local businesses set up tables to visit with students about what they enjoy about their chosen career field.

EHS students participate in community service day
El Dorado High School's KAY Club sponsored a community service day on April 28 to give back to the community that has been so supportive of our schools.
Although the planned outdoor clean up activities were derailed by the rain, students still had many indoor options to choose from.
There were project-based options like making items like blankets for the Safe House, homeless kits, chocolate chip/M&M cookies for local first responders, bird feeders and bird houses and service-based options that allowed students to clean, organize, or simply interact with community members.
We have some future community leaders as #PartOfThePride!

Seven El Dorado High School students performed at the state music festival at Andover Central on April 29.

Three EHS boys tennis players qualify for state
The El Dorado High School boys tennis team competed at the regional competition in Hayden on May 6.
Payton Wade placed sixth in singles and Naman Bhatt and Reece Knight placed sixth in doubles, qualifying to compete at the state competition on May 12 and 13.
EHS girls swimmers place at AVCTL
The El Dorado High School girls swim team competed in the AVCTL meet in Buhler on May 12. There were several top 4 placers. Overall, the team placed sixth.
EHS track competes at AVCTL
The El Dorado High School track team competed in the AVCTL meet in Andale on May 12. Overall, the boys team placed fifth and the girls team placed sixth.

EMS boys tennis players place at Patriot League
The El Dorado Middle School boys tennis team competed in the Patriot League tournament here in El Dorado on May 10. Overall, the team placed third.
Theron Mays placed first in #1 Singles and Lane Eck placed first in #2 Singles.
Daniel Bowlin and Blake Zogleman placed first in #1 Doubles. Payten Watters and Noah Ward placed third in #2 Doubles.
EMS students compete at Patriot League track meet
El Dorado Middle School students competed in the Patriot League track meet at Haysville West on May 9. The seventh grade girls team placed third. The seventh grade boys team placed fourth. The eighth grade boys and girls teams placed fifth.

Blackmore fifth graders start a business
Blackmore fifth graders recently started their own businesses! They came up with a concept, presented a business proposal to earn a business license, created their items and then put up their items to sell with "market day" money!

USD 490 transportation department participates in regional training
The USD 490 transportation department participated in a regional bus competition on April 29.
The competition allows drivers to show what they know by competing in three categories that are split into Rookie or Experienced. The categories are Mini Bus, Conventional and Transit (Snub Nose).
Sandra Peters was USD 490's only entry in Mini Bus, where she took first place in the Rookie.
We had six drivers compete in the Rookie Transit. Rick Jenkins placed second, Kayla Thomas placed third, Veronica Fisher and Robert Cecchini tied for fourth place, Brandy Combs placed fifth and Kyle McLaren placed ninth.
Tonya Good and Alisha Cubbage placed fourth and ninth, respectively in the Experienced Transit.
This training allows transportation staff to further their education and sharpen their driving skills as well as meet colleagues from other districts. There will be an opportunity for them to compete at the State Safety Conference and bus Rodeo at the end of May.
EHS and EMS students attend Think Before you Post presentation
El Dorado Middle and High School students attended a Think Before You Post assembly on May 2. Presenter Chet Kuplen spoke to students about the importance of how they present themselves, both in person and online in an increasingly digital world.
