The Tuesday Notice
January 2, 2024
ACORN now has a "classroom"! We are thrilled to announce the installation of a nice, new garden shed in our Clay Street Garden space. The shed is a cozy place for our ACORN classes to huddle when it's rainy or cold outside and provides some good storage for all the seeds and tools the children use each day. Ms. Leann was instrumental in gathering the funds and will-power to make it all happen. Thank you, Ms. Leann, and we hope all your students enjoy the new space!
Dear Siskiyou School Families,
A heartfelt thank you for all your kind words and generous gifts into the Teacher Gift Fund! Every teacher received a nice holiday surprise at our holiday party due to your donations; and everyone, including myself, deeply appreciated your words of gratitude. Thank you!!!
It was nice to see the children return to school today; it seems that everyone was ready for the daily rhythm to start up again.
All is well on campus! January is the last month of the 1st semester. This month we will have History & Vision Night on 1/18 along with parent evenings for each class. We will also have two parent enrichment evenings; one with Nina Gallwey tomorrow and one with our DEI facilitators on 1/24. Please join us for these wonderful events. The second semester starts on 1/29; at that moment all classes will switch from Chinese to Spanish and the 1st grade will move to a full day schedule.
On February 15th and 16th we will have parent teacher conferences. Thank you for marking your calendars.
Please take a moment every week to read the Tuesday Notice. Aside from important dates, it’s always filled with wonderful messages and updates from teachers, little videos, pictures, and much more. It’s our way to communicate with you and to make sure you are fully informed about all the happenings at the school. Thank you for your attention to this.
Thank you to every family for sending your child to our school and for being an integral part of this school community.
Sending you best wishes for the New Year with this Irish Blessing:
May your joys be as deep as the oceans,
Your troubles as light as it’s foam,
And may you find sweet peace of mind
Wherever you may roam.
With warmth, Aurilia

Ms. Caterina
Dear Siskiyou School Families,
Thank you for the kind words, gifts and holiday contributions that brightened my birthday and sweetened the winter holiday. So many folks have supported the start of the kindergarten program this year, and each day I feel the love and hard work that was poured into starting this sweet program! When you love your job, it doesn't feel like work. Every day I look forward to coming to school! May the new year bring joy, health and happiness to you all.
Ms. McKissick
Dear Siskiyou School Families,
Thank you for your wonderful generosity during the teacher gift-giving time! Your words of gratitude are inspiring and enlivening . The extra bit of cash helps a lot too! Here’s to a New Year and many, many good things to come! Cheers and Gratitude!
Mrs. Bartow
It was so wonderful to celebrate the holiday season with the Siskiyou Community through our Winter Faire, the Winter Assembly, our class party, and notes to me. As I sat down to read your letters, my heart was filled with gratitude for your support, thoughtfulness and generosity. Thank you so much for creating this mantle of warmth and connection. I am eager to begin the new year with the children and excited about the curriculum we will be exploring in January. Happy New Year to you all and blessings on our class.
Mr. Criswell
Dear Families,
Your heartfelt words and well wishes were a treasure to receive. The generosity and kindness shared by our parents continues to warm my heart. Over the break, I had the chance to spend quality time celebrating and resting with family and friends. I am excited to return to the classroom and school in the new year, and I remain humbled to be a part of this wonderful community.
Mr. Beech
Thank you, dear friends and families of the Siskiyou School community for the kind words and generous donations to the Teacher Gift Cards this holiday season. It is simply wonderful to receive your friendly support at this time of year. Happy New Year!
Ms. Bower
Dear Siskiyou School Parents,
For a few years now I’ve kept a running list on my desk about things I’m grateful for and love about each month of the year. One thing included in December is the TGF, for sure!! And it’s not the monetary gift inside that I’m talking about, although that is sweet and so appreciated! For me, it’s the cards with all the words of recognition and humor and well wishes that led me to add it to my December list. I savor the cards and picture each and every one of you as I read them.
So from the bottom of my heart, thank you! Here’s to 2024!!!
Mrs. Archer
I feel so much gratitude to you parents for your open hearts and generosity. Your kind words mean so much to me. Thank you for supporting music in your child’s life, it is a lasting gift!
Mr. Cord
Reading all of your warm and thoughtful messages was a joyous experience and an absolutely perfect way to start off the holidays; I am simply brimming with gratitude for each and every one. Your kindness and generosity set the tone for the season, and I am blessed to be a part of such a wonderfully inspiring community. I look forward to another year of music with all your amazing children!
Zhang Laoshi - Ms. Carroll
Dear Siskiyou School Parents,
Reading your thoughtful words and well wishes in all the beautiful cards in the moment of quiet was one of the highlights of my winter break. I am so deeply grateful for your generosity and kindness. Thank you for taking the time in your busy lives to stop and write, and for the gift which I deeply appreciate. You have touched my heart with the lesson of gratitude. Happy New Year to you all (新年好)! May the Year of Wood Dragon (木龙) bring you good health, prosperity and abundant happiness. From the depth of my heart , with love.
Ms. Leann
Happy New Year Siskiyou School Families and Friends!! I hope you had a restful and rejuvenating holiday break. I enjoyed a bit of travels with friends and family, hikes in nature with my dogs , and cozy time at home! Much gratitude parents for your generosity and heartfelt thank you cards! May you find good health, peace and laughter in 2024!! All my best!
Mrs. Hutchins
I’m truly honored by your kind words and humbled by your generosity. Thank you so much. I feel so blessed to be part of this wonderful community. Wishing you all a joyous New Year!
Mr. Monda
Greetings to you all to start this new year, and many thanks for the cards. Your words are not only supportive, but also inspirational. It helps to confirm, year in and year out, that what I am doing here at the school is both seen and valued. Thank you. And, the extra holiday money is a wonderful gift, especially during this holiday season. Many blessings everyone.
Kristin Beers
There's nothing quite like being ill just before the holidays to make you VERY thankful for health and such a loving, supportive community. Your well-wishes were a rejuvenating balm and helped my healing immensely. I'm so grateful for your cheer-leading of what we do here for the children. Thank you and have a healthy new year everyone!
Dear Siskiyou School Parents,
Welcome back to a new year! Come join us for inspiration and support as you reset your parenting intentions for this next chapter. We have a variety of offerings in January and look forward to seeing you! A new offering includes Tuesday Tea for girls, ages 9-12—a mentoring circle with fun activities to explore social-emotional skills led by Nina. We also have two Mini Morns that are open to parents (visit the website for info on these offerings).
Deepen your parenting with one of our January Parent Education Series:
Moms of Boys with Janet Allison 3 sessions January 10, 17, & 24 9:15-10:30 a.m.
Join Janet Allison of Boys Alive! for an in-depth exploration on ways to support boys in navigating school, friendships, and home life with ease. Learn boy-friendly communication tools and strategies for motivation and engagement. If you are a mom of a boy, come bask in Janet’s extensive experience and expertise.
Tween Parent Circle with Nina Gallwey 3 sessions January 18, 25, & 2/1. 9:00-10:30 a.m.
Join Nina Gallwey for this popular series on the child development of the years between 7-12 years old. These are the years when the child blossoms into their emotional development
and can be given tools to navigate difficult emotions, to self-regulate, and to communicate effectively. Since many of us were not trained to “ride” emotional waves or understand the neurology of emotions, this series will help you and your child!
Dedicate to mindful parenting with an inspirational morning coffee with Nina:
Intentional Parenting January 16 9:15-10:30 a.m.
Take a moment to reset your values and recommit towards Intentional Parenting in the new year.
A guided exploration into various aspects of parenting, this session will offer you ways to relook
at your family values and priorize them in a way that is clear to your children.
The Soul of Discipline January 23 9:15-10:30 a.m.
Inspired by the work of Kim John Payne, this session will offer a look at how to reframe discipline into an opportunity to connect rather than punish. As we learn to work WITH the child rather than against the child, we deepen our relationship with them and give them life long tools for self direction.
Whole Brain Parenting January 30 9:15-10:30 a.m.
When we are stressed, we all resort to survival patterns that are run by centers in the brain that
are void of creative problem solving. Is parenting stressful? Um, yes. This session will help you identify your particular survival response with tools to support whole brain integration so you can access mindful ways to respond rather than react to challenges with your children.
Registration for all offerings is required as space is limited.
Visit the website at ohanafamilyresources.com.
