Transitional Kindergarten Expands
The LASD TK program is an enriching, full-school day program. It is an extra and optional public school grade that is a bridge between preschool and Kindergarten to build the social, emotional and academic skills for success in Kindergarten and beyond. Children enrolled in TK enroll in Kindergarten the following school year.
LASD’s TK program features highly-qualified, experienced and credentialed Transitional Kindergarten teachers. Children learn through active play and group activities. Students experience hands-on, project-based and collaborative learning with peers and teachers in small class sizes.

5-Day Isolation Information
Beginning Wednesday, January 26, students and staff who tested positive for COVID-19 may qualify to return to school as early as Day 6 after isolation if they meet the following criteria:
Proof of a negative COVID-19 test (rapid antigen test is preferred due to the prolonged positive result from a PCR test)
Symptom improvement
Fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication
A completed LASD Return to School Post COVID-19 Positive Test form submitted by no later than 3pm the day prior to returning to school work
After completing the form, you will receive a written email from LASD clearing your student to return to campus. You will need this email to check in at your front office upon returning to school.
Please note: The individual must wear a well-fitting mask around others for a total of 10 days, especially in indoor settings. If it is not possible to wear a well-fitting mask at school, the individual will need to stay home until Day 11.
When can a student return after being COVID-19 positive?
To return, a student must take an at home rapid antigen test on or after Day 5 after symptom onset or positive collection date, whichever is first. If the test is negative, please complete the Return to School form by no later than 3pm the day prior to the return to school. If the test is still positive on Day 5, you may continue to test daily until the student tests negative. If your student does not wish to test or continues to test positive, they may end isolation and return to school on Day 11 without proof of a negative test, as long as they are fever-free for 24 hours and symptoms have improved.
If you need an at home rapid antigen test, please contact your school’s front office.

The 2022 LASD STEM Expo
Due to the generous support of community donations to the Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF), LASD hosts an amazing showcase of student STEM projects each year. Students in grades TK-6 participate in designing hands-on projects while exploring just how fun STEM can be.
In March and April, all of our elementary schools will host a STEM Expo. To participate at your school, your student may enroll here. We encourage all students to join us for the Expo!
This event lends itself to a variety of learning experiences either within the class or at home, working individually or collaboratively with their peers or with adults amongst a wide range of STEM categories. Ultimately, students get the chance to showcase their science work in a fun and unique venue, with learning opportunities for the entire family.
If you have not had a chance to support LAEF this year, we encourage you to consider a contribution. All funds raised support excellent programs for all students in our schools. Click here to donate today! To learn more about LAEF and the critical programs it supports in our schools, click here.
