Congratulations to All of Our Students for a Great Year
Congratulations to the Class of 2020-21! We know you will excel in high school and beyond. To all of our students who are moving on to the next grade level, we look forward to seeing you next year! Have a wonderful summer!
2020-21 Student Academic Assessments
The Board of Trustees received information on student academic performance or assessments for the 2020-21 school year. Overall, academic performance was extremely strong and remarkably similar to previous school years.
This Spring students in third through eighth grade completed academic assessments in reading and math. Eighty-seven percent of our students were either at or above grade level in reading. In math, student performance in third through eighth grade was equally as impressive, with similar proficiency as in prior years.
We are extraordinarily proud of our students and staff for these incredible results, achieved during one of the most challenging school years. On the whole, our data show that LASD students did not experience learning loss this year. We want to thank all of our families who supported their students and our schools to help make this incredible achievement possible.
However, a small subset of our students did not perform at grade level. Many of these students will be attending our summer school program to ensure they are prepared to succeed in the upcoming school year. A more detailed analysis of the students falling below grade level will be presented to the Board in August.
Over the summer, our staff will receive additional professional development to ensure we identify students in the fall who may need additional academic support.
For more information and to view the data up-close, check out item H.1. on our agenda online.
LCAP Reporting for LASD
The LCAP is a tool for local educational agencies to set goals, plan actions, and leverage resources to meet those goals to improve student outcomes.
The Board received information regarding LASD's progress in meeting the academic priorities for its students via the California School Dashboard. The California School Dashboard provides parents and educators with meaningful information on school and district progress so they can participate in decisions to improve student learning. LASD's Dashboard data, which will be updated online in November 2021.
In addition the Board approved the Local Control and Accountability (LCAP) Federal Addendum for 2021-2022; the Annual Update for the 2019-2020 LCAP; 2021-22 Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) Budget Overview for Parents; the 2021-22 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP); and the 2021-22 District Budget. All of these components provide transparency and local academic priorities and expenditures for parents and community members as we work to meet the needs of all of our students.

Board Reviewed a Proposal for Increased Compensation for LASD Teachers and Staff
After a very challenging school year where our teachers and staff worked tirelessly to shift gears multiple times and provide the best education possible for all of our students in the midst of a pandemic, the Board of Trustees considered a proposal to provide a one-time payment of $1,000 per FTE for the 2020-21 school year.
Earlier this year, the Board voted to approve a 2% salary increase to all staff. To continue to keep staff salaries competitive, and attract and retain the best educational staff, the Board considered a proposal last night to increase salaries for the 2021-22 school year by an additional 5%.
The Board will consider and vote on these proposals at its next meeting on Monday, June 21.
For more information, please review items H.8. and H.9. on our agenda online.
