O'Maley Family Focus
August 9, 2021
Dear O’Maley Families,
I hope you are having a wonderful summer! I had the pleasure of a lengthy trip during late June and July that was very rejuvenating. As always, it is very exciting to be back and to be planning for students to return. O’Maley staff is working hard to be sure that everything is ready for your children.
You may be aware that the main office and front entry have been undergoing renovation since June. Ms. Leveille, Ms. Oliver and I have been working in the library, but expect to be moving back to the office suite at the end of next week.
I am sure you are curious about what things will look like this fall related to COVID-19, and you may have many questions. Because of the changing nature of the pandemic right now, the School Committee and the Superintendent have not yet decided on our final safety protocols for the year including who will be required to wear masks in school, however, discussions have begun. Please view this presentation from the Gloucester School Committee’s August 5th meeting for information that is available, and how decisions will be made in GPS: Every Day Matters School Committee Presentation.
Below you will find information that may be helpful either as new information or reminders for the upcoming school year. A great deal of information is available on the O’Maley website at http://omaley.gloucesterschools.com.
Wrapping Up Summer:
Summer Reading links are posted on the O’Maley website at http://omaley.gloucesterschools.com/. There is a video for each grade explaining how summer reading works. Each ELA class processes the reading assignment as the year begins, so it’s important to complete this task.
Tours for Students: On August 17th and 24th at 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. O’Maley Students will run tours for students new to O’Maley. This includes incoming 6th graders, students who have just moved to Gloucester, and 7th grade students who learned remotely all year in 6th grade.
To Sign Up for a Tour: Link to sign-up by Thursday, August 12th
To Lead Tours: Link to sign-up by Wednesday, August 11th
Reminders for Fall:
Placement: Placement information with House and Homeroom assignments will be mailed Tuesday, August 24th. Guidance and administration work diligently to ensure that our groupings are balanced across the houses throughout grades 6-8, ensuring the most equitable learning experience possible for all students. As a result, requests for changes in placement are not accepted.
Schedules: Students will receive their schedules on the first day of school, August 31st. On that day, teachers will meet students and guide them to locations throughout the school.
Supplies: Supply lists are posted on the sidebar of the O’Maley website. Chromebooks should come to school fully charged every day, beginning August 31st.
Homework Assignment Books: Homework is typically assigned to students through Google Classroom. However, some students find it helpful to have an assignment book to write in as opposed to annotating electronically. Students should feel free to bring an assignment notebook.
Communication and Contact Information: Communication is essential for our ongoing partnership. Please be sure to keep your email address and phone numbers up to date in the student information system by informing the office if there are changes. Almost all communication from O’Maley will be electronic. If you do not have an email address, please let us know so that we can send you hard copies or a link to documents via SMS text messages.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Best Regards,
Principal Lynne Beattie
