EEI CONNECTIONS
JANUARY 2023
ID BADGES
Monday, January 9th, each student at EEI will receive a personal identification badge and lanyard to be worn each day at school. We have added these for safety and to streamline services such as cafeteria purchases, library check-out, transportation/bus riding, and event attendance. Students will be required to wear their badge each day to identify them as a student at East End Intermediate School. Replacement badges will cost $5.00. Students must use the breakaway lanyards provided by the school for safety. Please encourage your child to wear their ID badge daily.
JANUARY CHARACTER WORD--Respect
What is Respect?
Respect is the willingness and ability to act professionally and thoughtfully with ourselves and others. Leaders can deal respectfully with opposition and provide space for both dignity and differences to coexist.
Why focus on Respect?
- Respect contributes to a positive culture. People feel safe, supported, and engaged in the context of thoughtful social, emotional, civic, and intellectual interactions.
- Respect decreases conflict. Respect helps us, and others, to be able to express ourselves without fear of being judged, humiliated, or discriminated against.
- Respect encourages empathy. Respect helps us to understand each other and put ourselves in someone else shoes.

MUSIC AND MOVEMENT
Music is a great motivator when it comes to physical activity. Use these tips to encourage your child to be active and build large motor skills.
- SONGS WITH A TWIST. Let your youngster create her own versions of familiar songs. For "The Hokey Pokey" instead of "turn yourself around," she might sing, "Do a forward roll" or " Run up and down the stairs." Or sing "If You're Happy and You Know It," and change the actions to "hop on one foot" or "touch your toes."
- MAKE UP DANCES. Together, choreograph a dance routine using different combinations of moves. Each person could pick a dance step (leap, twirl, jump). Then, have your child use the steps to create a pattern. Example: Jump, twirl, twirl, twirl, leap, jump, twirl, twirl, leap. Put on music, and let her lead you in performing the routine.
