Great Things Are Happening At Haw River Elementary!
Week 28- Our Lion Cubs Are Challenging Themselves to Grow!
WOW! We had a great time last week with College and Career Awareness Week! Students were able to learn about various career paths and what it takes to succeed in those careers. We would like to give a special shout-out to Mrs. Tricomi, Sgt. Ellis, and everyone who helped make our Career Day a success. A special lion cub roar goes out to Anna Tricomi, daughter of Mrs. Tricomi, for creating the video linked below to showcase how awesome our week was. The synergy on campus this week was amazing and truly demonstrates how together we can do so much!
We wrapped up our House Shirt Fundraiser last week selling over 50 shirts and raising close to $300 for School Improvement. Way to go Lion Cub Families; we appreciate your support!
Moving into Week 28, we are challenging ourselves with our "SPRING FORWARD: i-Ready Challenge".
We are challenging every student to pass five i-ready lessons by March 24th. Students began working towards this goal last week. Students will begin taking their EOY i-Ready Diagnostic on Wednesday, March 22nd, and completing it by April 6th. To prepare for this opportunity to show what they know, we want them to do their best and use their time wisely to pass five lessons!
Students are tracking their progress in the cafeteria by adding a sticker to our "blooming flower" for every lesson passed. As of Friday (3/17), there were 717 reading and 712 math lessons passed for a total of 1,438 lessons passed! WAY TO GO AND GROW LION CUBS!!!

Lion Cub Lingo
Each week during morning announcements, Mr. Bryan will announce the “Lion Cub Lingo” Words of the week. These words have been pulled from an academic vocabulary list that are most commonly used on formative and summative assessments. Students that use those words with adults in the building in the correct context can be rewarded with a House Point.
Leader In Me At HRE
Habit 6: Syngergize
How much do you value differences? Do you:
- Respect, include, and value everyone's skills and contributions?
- Know the unique strengths of the people you work with and live with?
- Actively seek to learn from others?
- Seek out different ideas and points of view?
- Take advantage of the strengths of others and differences of opinion to achieve better results?
When Seeking 3rd Alternatives, be ready to ask important questions such as:
- Are you willing to move off both our solutions and find a better way?
- Are there some outcomes we can both agree on?
- Could you tell me your deep concerns about this issue?
- Now that I understand your point of view, would you mind if I share mine?
- What are everyone's wins?
- What are the alternatives, options, and wild ideas?
