PRIMARY - MUSIC INFORMANCES
This week Music Informances were presented with Mrs. Laura Johns, Primary Music teacher. Parents were able to come and join in on our music fun… singing, dancing, and playing instruments.
We are grateful to all the parents who took the time to come interact with their children.
PRIMARY - CELEBRATING 100 DAYS OF LEARNING!
It is hard to believe that we have been in school for 100 days! Some of the Kraus Krew’s favorite things are lunch, recess and specials. We sure do love our Primary Lunch Ladies that come out and dance with us, visit, and even arm wrestle, while eating a yummy lunch!
We are lucky that our Principal has made it a priority for us to have three recesses throughout our day! The Kraus Krew LOVES their outdoor brain breaks!
Here are the Coleman Cool Kidz! We have learned so many cool things this year! We have grown so much in our writing and reading. We love to share our writings with each other before we publish on Seesaw at the end of the week! We love having fun and learning everyday!

BIRCH ELEMENTARY
Birch First's Greater Longview United Way Accelerated Reader Store opened last week for our students to have an opportunity to "spend" their Accelerated Reader points that they earned during the first semester.
Students chose to either purchase smaller prizes with those points OR wait until May to use all of the Accelerated Reader points they earn for the entire 2022-2023 school year to purchase a larger prize. We are very proud of our students' love for reading!

Our character trait for the month of February is Courage! These 3rd and 4th grade students have been selected by their teachers for showing courage to be kind to others and try new things. We are very proud of our Birch First leaders!

Groundhog Day
Mrs. Fobell’s class had such an eventful day last week. Students made pillows. The entire class took a survey about Groundhog Day. Each student had the opportunity to predict if Punxsutawney Phil would see his shadow or not. From the class of 22 students, 12 predicted he would see his shadow. Welcome to 6 more weeks of winter!

Our 100th day of school celebration was a success here at the Pack Ranch. Our amazing pack members dressed up, and geared up to be 100 years old. There were some amazing, adorable looking “old” students at the Pack. We cannot believe it has been 100 days here at Parkway. Our students are learning so much, and having a great time doing it.

HIGH SCHOOL
Winter weather came to Pine Tree last week and brought some frigid temperatures on the outside, but inside things were warm as students, faculty and staff were extremely busy with classwork, competitions and projects.
Major projects, important classroom learning and demanding tasks are being accomplished all across the PTHS landscape, and students are actively engaging in the lessons being brought them by hard working faculty.
Students understand this is an important time of year, a time when the desire to work is low but the need to work is high. Students and teachers are doubling up on efforts to support each other and bring home lots of successes for the high school.
Competitions are also featuring many high school students. Approximately thirty students participated in competition this past week and all of them had work worthy of making the state meet in March. This is important since Pine Tree is recognized for its excellence in welding, construction, automotive and culinary.
Choir and band are busy with competitions as well. Band is also busy preparing for competitions as well as Color Guard. This group has really been successful the past two years and are hosting a meet on February 25 as well as attending important competitions in Dallas and other Texas cities over the next month.
UIL Academics is in the middle of a busy and hectic meet schedule with Hallsville’s Heart of Hearts Tournament. This tournament annually show's PT's strengths in UIL Academics, and it is a good barometer for how the team will do in district. As it stands this year, Pine Tree is one of the premier teams overall in UIL Academics; something the coaches have worked very hard to accomplish.
March 1 will see juniors taking the SAT test here at Pine Tree. This important exam allows students to be ready to apply to college and see what they can do or might need to do to be college ready.
Athletics are also ongoing. Basketball for boys and girls is reaching the end of seasons, with the boys still in the hunt for a playoff spot. Soccer is also in the middle of its schedule, with the girls undefeated heading into important games this week. Powerlifting has seen a lot of success so far this year, both boys and girls teams. That means they will showcase their talents in the state meet based on results thus far.
Baseball, tennis, golf and softball will begin spring sports schedules in the next week and will be active all the way to the end of school.
Finally, Precision is looking to score major points in a competition this weekend in Dallas. The girls swept an earlier meet in Tyler which is promising for Director Laycen Watson and her team to do the same against some major schools from Dallas and Houston.
As far as events, Leadership and the BUCS will have a car show on Saturday, March 4 at the stadium. The event will run from noon until 4 p.m. and feature classic and modern cars. Contact Caity Rutledge at crutledge@ptisd.org or Greg Collins at (903) 25-5031 ext 1171 to enter a car or request more information.
EXCEL
January 26, 2023 was a night full of proud students, families and staff as 12 fall graduates walked the stage at the Pine Tree High School theatre. Manuel Underhill and Juan Garcia were early graduates this year. The students donned with white ribbons were Globe Scholars and Kohl McKinley who donned a red, white and blue ribbon was recognized as a Globe Scholar with Merit. We wish each of these students continued success in their future endeavors.
Since the fall graduation, Raen Hammond has completed her coursework and will walk in the May graduation ceremony. Raen came to ExCEL from Ellensburg ISD in Washington when her mother relocated to Longview. She came to ExCEL not to graduate early but because of her shy nature she felt it would be ideal for her. Raen had missed a year and a half of school, but due to the nature of the Edgenuity program and the ability to work at a fast pace, she was able to get complete her courses and will graduate soon. In her free time, Raen likes to draw and watch movies.
Raen found it difficult to describe herself, but lead teacher Mrs. Jones had no problem describing her as quiet, determined, artistic and very self aware. While Raen doesn't know right now what she wants to do after graduation, based upon Mrs. Jones' description of her, she will no doubt do well. We wish her the best!
Below are January graduates left to right: Perla Madrid Reyes, Kyra Herrera, Rubi Madrid Reyes, Juan Garcia, Maria Vasquez, Jerusalem Briseno, Adrian Ibarra, Jeremiah Allen, Elizabeth Barron, Kohl McKinley, Manuel Underhill and Sophia Trnavsky.
