Dear Hill-Roberts Families,

I must start by sharing with you what an honor it is to be the new Principal of Hill-Roberts. My past four years as Assistant Principal will inform how we move forward together. I truly believe that we have the staff and family support needed to create an environment for students to be provided with both academic and social-emotional learning experiences.

This newsletter will be a place where I can share ongoings in school and in the Attleboro community. It will be published each Friday afternoon in the "News Feed" of our website, on our Facebook page, and via email. You may see flyers for local sports teams. You may learn about events or resources. You may see photos of students and staff as though you were a fly on the "walls" of our building! My hope is that you will depend on this newsletter to stay informed.

We look forward to welcoming our first, second, third, and fourth-graders to school on the 29th, followed by our kindergarten students on September 7.

Hello Hill-Roberts Families! I am so excited to be here as the new Assistant Principal. I spent most of my educational career in Plainville, MA with some time spent in Taunton as well. My experiences include teaching Inclusion Preschool, Grade 1, Special Education and most recently as a Behavior Coach and SEL Teacher prior to moving into administration. I have been spending time this summer getting to know more about HRES and working closely with Mr. Chelman in diligently preparing for the upcoming school year. We are very excited to start the year in a place where we can focus on family and community involvement to ensure the success of every student. We both feel strongly about the importance of these relationships, and we will strive to create a supportive and trusting school experience for all. Our school day runs from 8:45 AM to 3:25 PM. Doors open for arrival at 8:30 AM each day. If your child arrives after 8:45, you will need to park in the main lot and bring them in to sign in as tardy. Early release dismissal time will be 12:25 PM (no lunches are served on early release days).

These will go home on the first day of school. Please complete the enclosed forms and return them to school with your child as quickly as possible. As we try to move as much as possible to a digital format, this includes the use of Aspen as a way for families to review their child’s demographic and emergency contact information as well as view report cards and who the child’s teacher is. The, Parent ASPEN Brochure, will help families who are new to Attleboro as well as families who could use a refresher.

Bus stops/times will be posted to the district website soon. Questions about bus stops, the fee for service program, or routes should be directed to the transportation office at 508-222-0012 ext. 4. A reminder that for the first 2 weeks of school, times may be off by 5-15 minutes as everyone adjusts to more traffic on the roads when school begins as well as those families who take that extra minute to give a goodbye hug or words of encouragement. Please be at your stop at least 10 minutes before the estimated time of pick up/drop off. Once two full weeks have gone by, you will have a more realistic, regular time that the bus or van arrives/drops off at the designated bus stop. Thank you for your patience at the beginning of the year.

Please follow the process shown in the photos below for dropping your child in the morning and picking them up after school. For safety reasons, cars are not permitted in the circular driveway (i.e.. the main parking lot) in front of the school during arrival and dismissal times. This area is reserved for buses and transportation vans to load and unload students. It is illegal to pass a bus/daycare van with its lights activated. Walkers or students being dropped off at arrival will enter through the doors closest to the gymnasium. PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF OUR "NO PARKING" SIGNS. THEY ARE THERE FOR THE PROTECTION OF STUDENTS AND TO KEEP BUS TRAFFIC MOVING.

If you need to change your child's dismissal routine (e.g. change from taking the bus to getting picked up, dismiss early for doctor's appointment, etc.), you must send in a note. We recognize that much of our world now communicates digitally, and it's tempting and logical that you would think to email your child's teacher. However, we run into issues when either the teacher is out that day and unable to alert the office, or if the email comes in while the teacher is in front of the class and isn't able to check their email. With all of that in mind, please send in a hard copy of the dismissal note.

The Attleboro Public Schools are no longer utilizing the services of the Remind App. I recommend that you download our new app (Android or iPhone) to stay connected. This fall, we will share more information about our use of the two-way messaging function of this application. Families will still be able to access all of our messages through our website, which remains https://hres.attleboroschools.com/o/hres. The app will maximize the improved experience provided by this powerful new tool.

Our primary method of communication for school-wide information is through our weekly, digital newsletter called the Husky Howler. It will be emailed to families at the end of each week. We also frequently post to our school Facebook page as well so make sure to visit it and click “Follow.”

• Please remember our staff are working with your children throughout the day. This means we may take up to 24 hours to respond to emails and you may need an appointment to have a meeting. Our secretaries, Ms Lavoie and Ms Bartorelli , are often able to answer your questions. We maintain student confidentiality as required by law and frequently we cannot give out student information over the phone. Lastly, in this age of digital media, it is important you keep in mind that what you post on the internet can be seen by many people.

If your child(ren) will need medication in school this year, please see your doctor for medication orders. These need to be renewed at the beginning of each school year.

I will be back in my office on August 25th, for medication drop-offs/meetings. Please contact me first before coming to the school.

Please make sure we have the most up-to-date vaccination records for your child. If your child has any allergies (e.g., food, bees, etc.), please reach out to me to make sure we have that in our records to help us keep your child safe.

Hill-Roberts Elementary School

In response to concerns around food insecurity due to COVID, the USDA has committed to providing ALL students with free meals through the 2022-23 school year. This includes both breakfast and lunch.

If your child used an APS issued device for one of our summer programs, please send it to school with him/her on the first day of school.

Welcome back from the Hill-Roberts PTO!

Please join us Thursday for the Back to School Bash for our 1st – 4th graders! Students can meet their new teacher and classmates, see their classroom, and have some fun out by the playground!

Students will receive a free FROZEN LEMONADE from the Palagi truck! (Parents/ siblings are welcome to purchase for $1.50)

Don’t forget to bring your summer reading worksheets with you for a prize from the PTO.

We hope to see you there!

Our first PTO meeting will be held on September 13th at 6:30pm , held in the school library but also available online. More info to follow next week.
