BG Happenings
September 2023
Kindergarten
We have started introducing letters and sounds, and using them to begin to make words. Shared reading and writing is helping us gain confidence as emerging readers and writers. We are starting to become more aware of literacy all around us! It’s an exciting time!
1st Grade
First grade students recently started literacy rotations. We are excited to have parent volunteers start assisting in our classrooms on October 10
2nd Grade
2nd Graders are immersed in our third math module which focuses on understanding place value, counting and comparison of numbers to 1,000. Our students will expand their skills with an understanding of units by bundling ones, tens, and hundreds. Here is Mrs. Taylor’s class in action collaborating to efficiently count over 1,000 straws by bundling into tens and hundreds. This lays the foundation for future work in second grade and beyond.
3rd Grade
3rd graders have been doing a great job working with partners and small groups. We are building collaborative relationships and focusing on collaborative conversations!
4th Grade
During the month of September we meet with our buddies on two occasions. Each fourth grade class is assigned a second grade classroom as their buddy class. During our first meeting we focused on getting to know each other and building relationships through interviews and games. As part of the BG Best Paws celebration we had a second opportunity to spend time with our buddies. The second and fourth graders participated in games that required their collaboration.
5th Grade
The last couple of weeks, our Social Studies block has been used to better understand the geographical features of our world. To show off their knowledge, students have been creating their own continents that not only utilize the features, but apply them in a way that matches their own personal theme. It has been special to see students take on this project with agency!
SST
SST supported students on September 22nd with our first Town Hall of the year! Students read the book, The Invisible Boy and then completed a Chalk Walk with any theme they chose as a group.
