Community Crew News #17
December 10th, 2023
As an Expeditionary Learning school, we appreciate our willingness to value joy and rigor as equally important. This week students earned Pizza with the Principal and our new cougar mascot was introduced. The joy in our learners faces is a evidence of the joy we cultivate.
In our school district, every student is a Critical Thinker and demonstrate how they are reflectively as they critically analyze information. “Critical Thinker” is one of the six whole-learner outcomes that comprise the new EUSD Learner Profile in our Framework for the Future. This learner profile lives within our Expeditionary model. Our students ask questions with confidence and seeks to understand how the world works. They are strong collaborators as they learn challenging math concepts. They was evident during a math lesson in Mr. Palomino's class this week where students were persevering as they practiced various math strategies.
Our EL Model is rooted in exceptional practices that are deeply connected to our EUSD Framework for the Future and our Learner Profile.
Family Day at Lunch is coming. This is a day where families can bring their student lunch or purchase lunch from our cafeteria to enjoy. Food purchased outside or made at home will be for your student only and must not be shared with other students. We also ask that younger sibling guests be supervised by parents/guardians at all times. Play equipment is for Conway students only. Kindergarten & 5th grade Family Day at Lunch will take place in our MPR. If rain is forecast for the day of the event, the event will be cancelled and will be reschedule for a future date. Kindergarten & 5th Grade Family Day at Lunch Friday, December 15th 11:10 - 11:50 am 5th grade 12:00 - 12:40 pm Kindergarten **Maximum 4 guests including children.** Registration link can be found below, https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1HZ3pLmVlFXA2dOvkv5w-99G0gRErNMIROp6zzOWSUww/edit
I am grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion. Together we are creating an EPIC school.
We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.
Always in crew,

EUSD School of Choice Transfer Applications for 2024-2025 school Year is now Live! Typically, students attend the schools that serve the neighborhood attendance areas in which they live. However, EUSD does provide attendance options for parents and students in order to help meet the diverse needs and interests of students within the district. Students may apply for a School Choice Intradistrict Transfer to any school in the district. Submitting an application for School Choice does not guarantee enrollment in the desired school(s). Students who submit a school choice application by January 31, 2024, will be included in a random, unbiased lottery drawing. You will be notified by email during Spring 2024 regarding the results of the lottery. Your child’s application either will be approved or placed on a waiting list following the School Choice lottery. You will receive notification as to when the wait list is closed for the current school year, and you will be provided information as to how to submit a School Choice application for the following year. A separate application must be completed for each student who is applying for School Choice. A student who has a sibling(s) who is already attending a school of choice must also apply for School Choice and be approved in order to have the siblings attend the same choice school. Students who attend another school under the School Choice option are not provided transportation. If you would like to learn more about a specific EUSD school before submitting your application, you can visit our schools page by clicking on the link below. https://registration.powerschool.com/family/ActionForms/Public/38522 If you would like assistance submitting a School of Choice application, please visit our Family Engagement Center in Room 5 or contact Xochitl Maldonado at (760) 432-2435 EXT 12005.

Families of 6th-graders will receive an email this week that includes details about the legendary 6th Grade Camp at Cuyamaca Outdoor School, as well as a link to submit an interest form. Families must complete the interest form to be considered for participation. Space is limited to 305 students. A random lottery will be conducted if interest exceeds space available. Families will be notified in late January if their student was selected. The Cuyamaca Outdoor School program includes environmental education lessons that incorporate trail experiences and citizen scientist projects to create hands-on learning that is meaningful, memorable, and fun. The weeklong, overnight experience transforms how students feel about science and themselves as learners.

Birthday Announcements
You may ask how do we celebrate birthdays at Conway?
We have two unique ways that we celebrate.
First, in the main office you can fill out a form to have your child's birthday acknowledged on our electronic marquee to display a 24 hour message. The cost is only $5. If you cannot make it into the office, you can complete the electronic form https://forms.gle/3dMLHhiK5MTXJdpL9
and send in $5 cash and send it in with your learner. If it is a surprise please put it in an envelope addressed to the Conway ASB.
Second, our office staff has added a fun way to acknowledge each student's birthday. Students can visit the office for a special birthday pencil and cougar paw.
Need Caring Heart Nominations
There’s still plenty of time to submit a nomination for the annual Caring Hearts Awards, presented by the Escondido Education Foundation. These awards recognize members of the education community – individuals and organizations – working under the radar to go above and beyond in their support of students. These “caring hearts” do not seek recognition for themselves, and the foundation is in need of your nominations. Directions and forms are available in all school offices, at the front desk of the Carilyn Gilbert Education Center, 2310 Aldergrove Avenue, and online at this link. The nominee can be any school staff member, parent volunteer, community member, or community organization. Nominations are due by 4 p.m. December 18 at the district office, and the awards will be presented at the annual foundation dinner on February 9.
