RC3 News

I was licensed by the State Board of Cosmetology in 2002. Over the years, I have worked in various beauty salons, spas, and beauty chains. Some of these would include JCPenny, Master Cuts, Smart Styles, Regions, John Christopher Salon and Spa, and New Image Beauty Salon. All of those experiences helped me to embark upon my own salon in May of 2007. My first beauty salon was Virtuous Beauty Salon in Talladega, AL. When my family relocated to Oxford AL, I opened The Cut Up His and Her Salon. The Cut Up is in operations and has been a hub to help various Barbers, Stylist, Natural Hair Technicians, and industry professionals pursue and continue their career in the beauty industry.

While operating my salon, I pursued a degree in Management that I was able to complete in December of 2016 from Jacksonville University. I also received my Cosmetology Instructor hours and Barber training hours from The Martin Academy in Anniston, AL.

I began my teaching career at Anniston High School in Anniston, AL teaching History. This is my first year teaching at RC3 and I am elated to be a part of this great program. I’m looking forward to imparting my skills and knowledge to shape, mold, and mentor this next generation of professionals.

Hello! I’m Brodie Watson. I graduated from Hoover High School in 2020 and attended RC3 in my final year as a high school student. As a 17 year old with no definite pathway or career decisions made, RC3 was perfect for me. I was in the Fire Science class, taught by Landon Johnson and Jeff Otwell. These were the two men who paved the way for the career I enjoy now and grow to enjoy more every single day: firefighting. I am currently a firefighter for the city of Hoover and have been employed since February 21st, 2021. It goes without saying, but where I am today and the career I now enjoy would not be possible without Lt. Johnson and Lt. Otwell walking me through each strategic step to pursue my firefighting career and become employed by, in the opinion of many, the best fire department in Alabama. The gratitude I have towards these instructors is never-ending, as they are two men that I will always look up to and aspire to be like. They both took extra steps to ensure my success in pursuing my firefighting career. It was not about teaching from the books and hoping we make good grades to graduate, it was more than that. To them, it is about lifting up young men and women and helping them find their career path and always taking the extra step for us to achieve our goals. They care about us, as people. As I said before, it goes without saying, RC3 has helped me tremendously in pursuing my career and special attention and credit go to Lieutenant Landon Johnson and Jeff Otwell.

Hi! I am Lizzie Underwood, and I graduated from RC3's Health Science Academy in 2022. I obtained my patient care technician certification my senior year at RC3. I am working as a Patient Care Technician while attending classes at Jefferson State Community College to become a registered nurse. I currently work at UAB's Emergency Department, using skills I learned in the patient care technician class at RC3, such as drawing blood, running EKG's, and performing CPR on patients.

Hoover City Schools Foundation Stardome Comedy Club benefit featuring teacher-turned comedian, Brad Upton on Tuesday, October 24! Funds raised at this event give HCSF the ability to distribute grants to all 17 schools in the district. They are currently on track to invest over $100,000 back into classrooms for the 2023 calendar year!

Eighth graders from Berry and Simmons Middle Schools had the opportunity to visit RC3 for the annual RC3 Experience. Approximately 600 students explored their future career paths by taking a deep dive into the world of hands-on training at RC3. They toured the six different academy programs and math and english classes.

First nine weeks report cards are available to view in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Paper report cards will not be sent home. To view the official report card, log in to the Parent Portal and view the report card in student reports.

Representatives from the U.S. Department of Education's office of Federal Student Aid will be hosting a free Federal Financial Aid Virtual Bootcamp on Oct. 25 and 26, 2023.

The sessions are geared toward students, parents, borrowers, and college access professionals and will provide

• a preview of the new 2024–25 FAFSA form highlighting key changes,
• tools and resources to compare schools utilizing College Scorecard,
• a guide to return to repayment, featuring the new Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan and Loan Simulator, and
• best strategies for preventing federal student loan default.

If the student will not attend for any reason on a scheduled attendance day, the student is required to email RC3 to inform us of the absence. Please email at: rc3main@hoover.k12.al.us at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled arrival time.

Please be aware that RC3 attendance policy and procedures may differ from your base school.

Steps to prevent the spread of influenza:

• Wash hands often, especially after coughing, sneezing and wiping or blowing nose.
• Cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
• Use paper tissues when wiping or blowing the nose: throw tissues away after each use.
• Stay away from crowded living and sleeping spaces, if possible
• Keep hands away from eyes, nose and mouth.

A sick child is advised to stay at home during the first days of illness when symptoms are most severe and the infection is contagious. He/She can return to school when his/her temperature has been less than 100 degrees for 24 hours without the help of any medication to help him/her be fever free.

You MUST park in your assigned space every day. If you do not have an assigned parking space at RC3, you are NOT allowed to park on the campus.
