Locker Clean-out and Last Day Info
Hello, Seahawk Families!
This message is to provide parents with information regarding our locker clean-out and last day procedures for Scoggins Middle School:
All 6th grade students will clean out their lockers on May 28 through their Science class.
All 7th grade students will clean out their lockers on May 28 through their Science class.
All 8th grade students will clean out their lockers on May 29 through their Science class.
After these dates, students will no longer have access to their lockers. Students who bring their lunch to school will need to leave their lunches in their 1st period teacher’s classroom through the last day of school. Students choosing to bring a backpack, string bag, or larger bag/purse will also need to leave these in their 1st period teacher’s classroom, and retrieve it at the end of the day.
On the last day of school (Thursday, May 30) – please ensure that your student does not bring a backpack, large bag, string bag, or large purse (big enough to fit a binder or folder inside) to school. Students should only bring a pen or pencil to school on the last day of school. If your student chooses to bring a lunch from home on the last day, please encourage him or her to bring a sack lunch so that it may be easily disposed of after lunchtime. If students choose to bring a backpack, large bag, string bag, or large purse to school on the last day, we will hold it for them in the front office until dismissal time, and return it to them at the end of the day.
We appreciate your support of our locker clean-out and last day procedures. Thank you for another great year at Scoggins Middle School!
Scoggins End of Year Activities!
Hello, Seahawk Families!
As we close out a successful 2018-19 with our Scoggins students and families, we want to share some important information regarding some of our end-of-year activities:
Our annual Scoggins Carnival will take place on our football field and East Field on Wednesday, May 22, from 5 to 6:30 PM, and all of our families and students are invited to join us! You will not want to miss out – we will have games, prizes, and music, as well as a dunk tank and food available for purchase from food trucks. Please remember that students should be passing their classes, maintaining good behavior, and have all library books turned in by May 17 in order to attend the Carnival! We hope to see all of our Seahawks and families there!
Our Scoggins Honors Assemblies will take place this year on Thursday, May 23, during the school day in order to allow all of our students to be recognized in front of their classmates. The Scoggins faculty has chosen students from each grade level to honor for their academic, athletic, or extracurricular accomplishments. Students may also be honored for their participation in various clubs/organizations, earning all “A’s,” receiving the 8th grade Presidential Award for academic excellence, participating in the Duke Talent Identification program, or showing Seahawk PRIDE! Invitations for students being honored are being given to the students, and are also being mailed home the week of May 13-17, and parents are welcomed to attend. The Honors Assembly will take place in the Scoggins Gymnasium at the following times: 6th grade Awards: 6th period (1:09 to 1:55 PM); 7th grade Awards: 7th period (1:59 to 2:45 PM); 8th grade Awards: 8th period (2:49 to 3:35 PM). Parents planning to attend should enter through the front doors and check in through the front office at least 15 minutes prior to their grade level assembly, and then plan to exit the event through our east side carpool doors.
Our 8th graders will celebrate at the 8th grade “Later!” Lunch on the last day of school, Thursday, May 30! All 8th graders will receive a t-shirt from our Scoggins PTA, and students who ordered a yearbook will also receive their yearbook during the beginning of 5th period that day. Students will then take their lunch to the courtyard during both “B” and “C” lunches to enjoy a longer lunch, and sign each other’s yearbooks and t-shirts (if they choose). Students should remember to bring Sharpies or pens with them that day if possible to sign each other’s t-shirts and yearbooks!
All 6th and 7th graders who ordered a yearbook will receive their yearbook at the beginning of 7th period that same day (Thursday, May 30), and then all 6th and 7th graders will get to participate in Yearbook Signing Time during 7th period that same day. Sixth graders will be in the Practice Gym, and 7th graders will be in the Competition Gym. Students should also remember to bring Sharpies or pens with them that day if possible in order to sign each other’s yearbooks!
Finally, our 8th graders will participate in our annual “Final Scoggins Middle School Walk” on the last day of school, Thursday, May 30, at dismissal time. At dismissal time, all 8th graders will walk through the 8th grade, 7th grade, and 6th grade hallways on their way out the front doors, as their former teachers and current 6th and 7th graders cheer them on to high school! All 8th grade parents are invited to join us to greet them in the front foyer as they exit Scoggins Middle School for the last time to begin their high school careers! If you would like to join us, please plan to arrive at the front of the school at approximately 3:20 PM on May 30. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful children with us at Scoggins. We will miss all of our 8th graders, but know that, “Once a Seahawk, Always a Seahawk!”
Thank you so much for your support of Scoggins Middle School and all of our Seahawks!
8th grade Time Capsule Letters
Hello, 8th grade Seahawk Families!
For those families who started middle school with us in 6th grade (August of 2016), you may remember writing “Time Capsule” letters with your student during their 6th grade Future Flyers Camp. We will be sharing these letters with our 8th grade students on the last day of school (Thursday, May 31). This is always a fun experience for our 8th grade students, and we want to give all of our 8th grade parents an opportunity to participate, even if you did not join our Seahawk family in 6th grade!
If you know (or believe) that you did not write a “Time Capsule” letter, and you would like to share a note of encouragement with your 8th grade student as he or she heads off to high school, please drop off that note/card in our front office by 4 PM on Wednesday, May 30. Please put the note/card in an envelope with your student’s first and last name clearly written on the outside, and we will make sure he or she receives it on the last day of school.
Thank you so much for helping us to celebrate the end of middle school with our Scoggins Seahawks!
Lights Out!
Due to recent hail damage, our Scoggins Marquee is not working! We hope to have it repaired this summer, but wanted to give all of our families a heads-up. Please check our Scoggins website later this month for Summer and Back to School information.
Thanks so much!
