Securing Our School: Important Safety Measures and Friendly Reminders
Prioritizing safety, kindly inform the office of your name, your child's name, and the purpose of your visit when ringing the bell at the front door. If you're volunteering or visiting the classroom, please have your state-issued ID ready for check-in at the front office.
For forgotten items, such as lunches, instruments, or other belongings, parents can ring the bell to alert the office about the item's arrival. Subsequently, the item can be left at the front door, and a staff member will notify the classroom teacher of its arrival.
Effective immediately, the green hallway doors leading to the main hallway outside of the music room will be closed and securely locked at 3:30 every day, remaining so throughout the weekend. This measure is implemented for the safety and security of students and external groups using the school facilities, restricting access to this particular area. We kindly remind everyone attending weekend or evening activities in the school not to wedge open any external doors. This precaution is essential to ensure the safety, security, and privacy of all MRE students, staff, and families. Any forgotten items can be retrieved on the next school day. We appreciate your cooperation and partnership in maintaining a secure environment.
January Lunch Menu and Breakfast Update
Breakfast offering
Starting the second week of January, students will have the chance to receive a daily breakfast bag at school. The district is offering breakfast to any student who wishes to get it, and there is no need for advance sign-ups. Each morning, students will be presented with the option to choose a bag in the classroom, or they may choose to decline. The contents of the bag will consist of room temperature options that can be enjoyed without the need for heating elements.
News from the Health Office
Cold Weather Gear and Chapped Lips!
December is finally upon us, though the cold weather has been with us for a while now. We want to ensure that all of the children at MRE remain safe and healthy this holiday season. One way to remain healthy is to wear appropriate clothing to and from school.
Please ensure that your child has the following clothing when coming to school:
· Hat
· Gloves
· Several layers of clothing
· Winter coat
· Boots and snow pants as needed
We use the Child Care Weather Watch to determine when children can safely go outside for recess. More often than not, your child will be outside at recess daily so it is imperative that proper cold weather clothing is worn. If the mornings are rushed, please make sure to plan ahead of time the night before so that all the winter gear is ready to go in the morning.
Another thing that cold weather brings is dry chapped lips! To help prevent dry, chapped lips in your child:
Drink plenty of water
Monitor for repetitive licking of lips
Apply lip balm or unscented ointments to lips as needed throughout the day
Send your child to school with their own lip balm to use as needed

When to keep your child home from school:
If your child is unable to participate fully in school activities because of illness
When your child has a contagious condition or a rash with an unknown cause
When your child has had a fever of 100°F or more within the last 24 hours when not taking fever-reducing medications
If your child has had vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours or is unable to eat normally
If your child has been diagnosed with strep throat and has not been taking antibiotic medication or at least 24 hours
If your child requires medication for fever or ongoing pain relief
If your child has red/pink eyes with drainage
If your child has chicken pox, he or she must stay home until all lesions have scabbed over
If your child has active head lice he or she must be treated and be seen by the school nurse prior to returning to school
Contact the school nurse with any questions.
