Fall Garden Day

We had fantastic weather for our Fall Garden Day at the elementary! Students cleared and prepared garden beds, spread compost donated by Aspen Ridge Home & Garden, planted garlic, tulips, spinach, and lettuce, saved seeds, listened to stories, and explored the oak savanna. A big thanks to our community volunteers: Jenny Bonde from Shooting Star Farm, Ashley Nieses from Sandhill Farm, Conservationist Zac Pacana from Driftless Area Land Conservancy, storyteller Jane Stenson, and UW-Platteville School of Education students Leah, Jakob, Maddy, Brittney, and Aliza. We are so fortunate to have this great outdoor classroom!

Allbright, Wendhausen are Students of the Month

Our November Students of the Month for the 2022-23 school year were honored Tuesday at a Mineral Point Kiwanis meeting -- a big congrats to Lorelei Allbright and Olivia Wendhausen! All-State

Voyage to Japan

1st graders traveled out of the country to….Japan! They learned about Momofuku Ando; he invented ramen noodles as we know them today. Students tried their hand at chopsticks, too!

Edible Cells

6th graders have been busy in science last week planning, building, and eating edible cells! They learned all about cell organelles and their functions.

Cow Adoption

Ms. Miess' students were so excited to learn all about their new class pet, Lulu, the dairy cow! They will be learning all about Lulu and her growth throughout the school year as well as where food comes from, the dairy industry, and animals and farms

Humane Society Visit

Last week, Mrs. Gorgen's 2nd graders visited the Iowa County Humane Society! Students read a book titled "Madeline Finn and the Shelter Dog." This inspired them to read books to the animals at our local shelter. They had the chance to read, socialize, and drop off donations for the animals that are so well cared for.

Day of the Dead

Last week, we celebrated the Day of the Dead in Spanish 1-4! Students decorated sugar skulls, made marshmallow skulls, painted alejibres (wooden spirit animals), and decorated adornos (ornaments) to celebrate. In the morning, Spanish Club had homemade Mexican hot chocolate and Pan de Muertos to celebrate the day.

Trick-Or-Treat

Our youngest Pointers went trick-or-treating around school! They practiced saying “trick-or-treat” and “thank you.”

No tricks here! 8th graders were treated to a true crime podcast episode on Halloween as they sharpened their listening skills!

Writer's Workshop

During writer’s workshop this past week, kindergarten students have been working on labeling. Tuesday, after the kids labeled a few sheets, they got to label Mrs. Terrill! What a hoot! The kids each received a different picture, and they used sticky notes to sound out words and label items on their picture. We were so impressed at how hard they worked at sounding out their words.

Book Budget Team

Our elementary "Student Book Budget Team" met recently! The first task was to make observations about our library. Students will combine these notes to create goals and prioritize an action plan. All 4th and 5th grade students have the opportunity to join this team of literacy leaders!

Say hello to Margot! She has joined #PointerNation this school year all the way from Belgium as a foreign exchange student. We are so glad she is here!

Spaghetti Squash

Students tried spaghetti squash at lunchtime! It came straight from our school garden! Many loved it so much they wanted seconds at snack time.

Costumed Visitors

Kindergarteners and their 3rd grade buddies put smiles on the faces of residents at Mineral Point Health Services when they visited in costume, also swinging by Farmers Savings Bank!
