Cucinella Weekly Wrap-Up #17
Week of January 8, 2024
“THE FUNCTION OF EDUCATION IS TO TEACH ONE TO THINK INTENSIVELY AND TO THINK CRITICALLY. INTELLIGENCE PLUS CHARACTER–THAT IS THE GOAL OF TRUE EDUCATION.” --- DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
Week Seventeen:
In what should have been our first full week back since the winter break, Cucinella was buzzing with activity. Teachers were moving along full steam with their curriculum. Our students in First through Fifth grade started the second round of writing benchmark assessments last week. Upon completion, the student writing pieces are assessed by the district's benchmark grading team. The teachers will now analyze this data in LinkIt! to drive their instruction for the second trimester. Our teacher's use of data driven instruction is integral to helping our students achieve their most.
As we navigate the dynamic landscape of education, harnessing the power of data has proven to be a game-changer, bringing about numerous benefits to both students and educators. Data-driven instruction allows us to tailor learning experiences to individual student needs. By analyzing student performance data, we can identify strengths and areas for growth, enabling us to create personalized learning paths that cater to each student's unique learning style and pace. Through careful examination of assessment data, we can pinpoint specific areas where students may be facing challenges. This targeted approach enables our educators to implement timely and effective intervention strategies, providing additional support to ensure that no student is left behind. Next up on our assessment cycle will be our reading benchmarks for Second through Fifth grade students in February.
Please keep in mind that even when the temperatures are very cold, we still make every attempt to get our students outside for recess. In conditions of extreme cold, we may not stay out for our full recess period, but we will take the students outside for a few minutes in order to provide them with much needed fresh air and some physical activity. Please be sure that the students are coming to school dressed appropriately. Sending students with coats, hats, gloves and other winter apparel is greatly appreciated.
School will be closed for students tomorrow, Monday January 15th to observer Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
We appreciate your ongoing support, and stay tuned for more exciting events and updates from Cucinella! If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact me at cperruso@wtschools.org.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY- MONDAY, JANUARY 15TH
Martin Luther King Day is observed every year on the third Monday of January — which is January 15th this year. School will be closed for students. The day honors the achievements of Martin Luther King, Jr., who led the civil rights movement in the United States. He encouraged the use of nonviolence as a way to end segregation. He played a large part in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which outlawed several types of discrimination. King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. His life and achievements are remembered and celebrated on this day.
