A general session will be followed with several breakout sessions. You choose which sessions you're most interested in attending.
- Agreements Matter: How can setting up family agreements improve the quality of life at home? Miracles can happen! Facilitated by Katie Jeffrey, Ferndale Principal, and Lauren Childs, Oakland Schools.
- Words Matter: Help your child learn that there are more words to express emotions besides "happy" or "sad." Facilitated by Cathy Force, Waterford Principal, and Karen Gomez, Oakland Schools.
- Behaviors Matter: Ways to get the behaviors you hope for from kids (and adults) and help them learn to regulate their behaviors. Striving to keep things positive! Facilitated by Mary Perfitt-Nelson, Oakland Schools.
- Communication Matters: When behaviors break down, how can communication help "restore" trust, actions and behaviors. Facilitated by Julie McDaniel, Oakland Schools.
Why should you attend?
The evidence is consistent, positive, and convincing: Families have a major influence on their children's achievement. When schools, families, and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more.
