We have such a caring and dedicated staff so lets celebrate Staff Appreciation Week!
Below are a few ideas to show your teachers and support staff how much they are appreciated:
- Consider creating a poster you can hold up for the teacher during your next online lesson.
- Share an online note or letter.
- Create and share a video thanking your teacher or support staff member.
National Lunch Heroes Day!
Our food service and support staff volunteers have been busy making sure all of our families who need support with food are being taken care of each week. I am so proud to be a BLUE DEVIL!
With that said, did you know Friday, May 1st was National Lunch Heroes Day?
Thank you, wonderful food service staff, for all that you’ve done for us in the past, present and future. Please see this quick Ted Talks below:

At Home Tips to Consider For Students and Families
I know you've been inundated with online resources for at home activities. But, see below for some additional ideas to have at your finger tips:
BE KIND: We know being home (in sometimes tight quarters) is tough on everyone, so now is the time to dig deep and be kind. Be kind to your little brother and your older sister. Help them understand the technology they might need for school. Set the table and do the dishes.
FAMILY HISTORY: Learn some family history with a photo album.
TAKE A HIKE: Go on a nature hike and appreciate the world outside together.
READ: Read everyday and read with a family member (like a cousin) by using Face Time, Flip Grid, Messenger, or some other online tool.
FIGURE IT OUT: Figure out at least one thing you love and are interested in then explore it and find out more. Maybe turn the exploration into a project based learning activity.
HAVE FUN and FIND THE JOY: Go outside, play board games, create then create some more! *Check out lessons and activities from Mrs. Melynchek!
COOKING/BAKING: Cooking and baking are great ways to integrate STEM activities.
DIY SCIENCE: Here are some ideas - DIY Science project
EXERCISE: Exercise! *See tips and activities from Mr. Skerjance's newsletter.

UPCOMING 3RD GRADERS-VIRTUAL MEETING TOUR/INFORMATION
In the past, the 2nd grade students from West Shore visited Torrey Hill in the spring and toured THIS prior to starting school in the fall. Because we are not able to do this, we are planning a virtual experience to allow your student to meet the teachers, interventionists, and the principal; Mrs. Conover. You and your student will learn more about Torrey Hill Intermediate School through this virtual tour. Please mark your calendars for our Google Meeting. Two meetings will take place on May 14th. More information on logging in will be available within 24 hours of the meetings.
1:00-1:30 PM (Students from Heil, Ureche, and VanCura)
2:00-2:30 PM (Students from Doyle, Warfield and Canning)
A parent meeting typically takes place in August. Parents are certainly welcome to watch the upcoming meeting, however, the parent meeting will be announced at a later date.
