The senior class held a group debate on the topic of drug decriminalization. Both sides researched their stance so they were able to fully explain their side and effectively question the opposing group. Great job!

Students in Mrs. Schmit's middle school social studies classes did a writing project on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The classes learned about the famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Each student was tasked with telling a few of the dreams they have for themselves and the world.

Starting back on January 5th, the 5th grade class has been taking part in a program offered through NDSU extension office agent Mrs. Cynthia Klapperich. The program's name is On The Move to Better Health (OTM for short) and focuses on weekly classroom lessons and newsletters to parents on various health topics that effect everyday life. The purpose of the program is to get students thinking about the everyday choices that they make and how they affect their health. The students were tasked with tracking their own healthy behaviors throughout the five-week program in order to "move" their way around a map of North Dakota. Goals were set along the way to help keep the students focused and motivated. Rewards are given to each student that completes the program and incentives are provided to maximize student participation. As of this writing, we have two weeks left in the program and the 5th graders are doing a marvelous job of tracking and attaining their healthy goals.

The 7th graders were learning about positive peer interactions. Their assignment was to write something that they like or admire about their peers on a sheet. The sheets can be hung in their lockers as a reminder that they all have positive traits that other people in their class enjoy.

Sargent Central’s backpack program provides children with easy-to-prepare food, on the weekends and extended breaks. Food is discreetly placed in your child(s) backpack on the last school day before the weekend or break. Through a partnership with the Village Family Service Center, Sargent Central is in our second year of offering School-Based Mental Health Services. The services offered by The Village include assessment, evaluation and treatment of mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, and ADHD for children in grades PreK-12. Because we offer these services at Sargent Central, time is not taken away from work, children miss less school time, and the collaboration between therapist and school is streamlined, which allows us to better serve your child.

Please leave an active phone number in your email or message. These services are commonly covered by your health insurance, but if that’s not the case, Mrs. Bopp has secured grant funding, so don’t let the cost stop you from getting the help your child may need.
