Green Meadow Update

Read Across America Month

During the month of March, different grade levels had guest readers in the classroom. They also participated in Drop Everything and Read Day. Classes in every grade level tracked daily reading minutes and tallied up the minutes at the end of each week. The third grade began the month by making a prediction of the amount of minutes that would be read after the first two days. The students at Green Meadow read an incredible 35,110 minutes in the month of March.

Congratulations to all of the Green Meadow students for achieving their goal!

PTO Basketball Fundraiser

The Green Meadow PTO ran the Wizards Basketball Fundraiser last Thursday. Swoop, a member of the Wizards team, visited the school and donated a book that he wrote to the library. Thank you to all who were involved in making this event a great success! A big shout out to the members of the Green Meadow PTO for organizing this fun event for our students and to all of our staff who volunteered their time play at the event!

Strep Throat - Note from the Nurse

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Recently, there have been several confirmed cases of Strep Throat school-wide at Green Meadow School.

Strep throat can be caused by respiratory droplets or direct contact. The most important step to stop the spread of illness is proper hand washing and staying home when you are sick.
Some common symptoms of Strep throat include:

  • Sore throat

  • Pain with swallowing

  • Fever

  • Red and swollen tonsils

  • Swollen lymph nodes

  • Stomach pain

  • Can also include nausea and/or vomiting or headache

If your child has developed symptoms of strep throat, please reach out to their pediatrician for evaluation. Your child should stay home from school until they are fever free without the use of medication and/or vomiting or diarrhea free for 24 hours. If your child receives a diagnosis of Strep throat, please contact your school nurse about their return to school.

What should you do to prevent the spread of Strep throat?

  • Thoroughly wash your hands and your child’s hands after any contact with mouth and nasal secretions and before eating or preparing food.

  • Wash all dishes in hot, soapy water or the dishwasher.

  • Do not allow the sharing of food or allow children to share cups, straws, spoons, or toys that are put into the mouth. In the bathroom: keep toothbrushes separate, do not share face cloths or use a common glass in the bathroom.

  • Complete the entire course of antibiotics for strep throat
